2023 Stewardship as of Friday, March 17th

We are grateful to the 203 Stewards, for their committed amount of $96,469.51

THANK YOU!!!

Your generosity brings us closer to our goal of $350,000.

PS It takes more than $60,000 per month to run our church and its ministries!

Stewardship is our grateful and loving response to God’s love, grace and gifts to us. It is our personal commitment to God and His Church to ensure its vitality and continuous growth by joyfully and sacrificially offering of our talents, time and treasures that we have received from Him. Stewardship puts our faith in action and demonstrates our trust in God.

In times of trouble or worry, especially over our career, we call upon God to strengthen us, to provide opportunity and to bring us success. When we achieve some measure of worldly success, it is easy to say to ourselves as we read in the Old Testament Book of Deuteronomy (8:17), “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” But the next verse quickly reminds us, “Remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.”

As Christian Stewards we are called to give back to God from the “first fruits” of our labor. We support our parish and her ministries in an intentional way and not with only what it left after everything else has been taken care of.

ATTENTION: Please return your 2023 Stewardship Commitment Card to the Church Office ASAP.

The Compassionate Friends Outreach Ministry of Saint Demetrios would like to thank Philoptochos and all those parishioners who donated to our annual baby bottle drive. This year we raised over $600 to help support the Martha and Mary Maternity Ministry. Under the guidance of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago, this ministry is a group of Orthodox Christians dedicated to helping pregnant women in need of support. The organization provides housing referrals, material needs and personalized assistance to any pregnant woman who is seeking help. Thank you all for your generous donations.

What does spring cleaning have to do with Project HOPE?

We started off the year strong and have already donated bags of non-perishable items and baby formula. As you are doing your spring cleaning, look for any items (from the list below) in your cabinets that you may not use before they expire and consider donating them to our Project HOPE mission. Also, if you have any baby formula that you no longer need, please consider donating as this is in high demand right now.  Feel free to drop these items in the bin next to the multi-purpose room in our fellowship hall.

There are also bags hanging from the bins that include a list of items (see below) that you can use for your next shopping trip.

More importantly, if you know of a family in need or you are in need, please help yourself to items in the bins.

As a reminder, if you have no time to shop, contact Fannie Theodore at ttheodore1@gmail.com or 708.899.8007 or Dimitri Katsamberis at katsam1@gmail.com to find out how you can donate or sponsor a bag.

Mission: The mission of Humanitarian Outreach and Philanthropic Engagement (HOPE) is to partner with parishes in the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago (“Metropolis”) and with local networks to help provide food security and stable housing to those in need.
