On April 10, KYW Newsradio taped and later broadcast a special feature on The Junior League of Philadelphia’s Kids in the Kitchen (KITK) program at Farrell Elementary School in Northeast Philadelphia. Over 200 children participated in this unique OST program as students prepared Mediterranean fare. Methodist Services is one of two KITK Community Partners. Spring planting has arrived! Windy mornings and longer sunny days have helped dry out fields allowing our Farm Manager Ryan Curran to prepare beds for planting. Beds begin to fill up fast as the parade of plants make their way to assigned spots on the Farm. Early spring plantings of cabbage, collards, kale, salad greens and onions are well rooted at this point. The fear of frost is no longer an issue as we can now think about summer tomatoes. This week sees the start to sowing our hot crops: cucumbers, eggplants, peppers, tomatoes and zucchini. Before May’s end, the Farm will be entirely planted and full of future bounty.
