Inglis Methodist Gardens opened its doors for the first time to welcome formerly homeless individuals and families, as well as people with disabilities to their new, inclusive community of 47 affordable, integrated, and supportive apartments, 23 of which are fully accessible and technologically-enhanced for greater independence.

Over 60 partners, funders & politicians celebrated this new $16.8 million project, awarded funds through low-income housing tax credits from the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA), a leadership gift of $4 million from Aetna Better Health of PA, and a $700,000 investment from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh.

Speakers for the ribbon-cutting included Senator Vincent Hughes, Councilmember Curtis Jones, Jr, Representative Amen Brown, Councilmember Katherine Gilmore Richardson, Councilmember Derek Green’s Director of Constituent Services Donna Clement Jackson, Councilmember Isaiah Thomas’ Labor & Community Liaison Carmella Green, Philadelphia Housing Authority President & CEO Kelvin Jeremiah, TD Bank Vice President/Relationship Manager Sue Taylor and Aetna Better Health of PA Director of Community Development Marykathryn Tronco.

“Since 1966, Methodist Services has been housing people experiencing homelessness,” said Anne Rice-Burgess, President & CEO, Methodist Services. “We are thrilled to partner with Inglis Housing Corporation to establish a fresh model of community housing with the type of high-quality housing that everyone deserves, in close proximity to our Philadelphia Housing as Health (PHasH) Collaborative providers.”

As the pandemic continues to unfold, Methodist Services assisted Residents, Program Participants & Staff in accessing COVID19 PPEs, pop up clinics, COVID19 tests and vaccines. Special thanks to community partners: Dr. Ala Stanford & Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium, Penn Towne Chapter of The Links, Jack & Jill of America Philadelphia Chapter, PCOM, City of Philadelphia, Walgreens, The Yo-Yo’s. As always, a big shout out to all of our essential & non-essential staff who diligently continue to show up & invest in children and families, every day! “We are Methodist Services!”
Special thanks to Cradles to Crayons for contributing more than 200 new Happy Harvest Parade/Halloween costumes for Methodist Services’ Children & Families. It’s always a treat to see Staff, Parents and Program Participants festively attired, albeit socially distanced!
We are grateful for our good friends at Penn Towne Chapter of The Links, PCOM, The Gateway School and Food Connect for collectively donating 60 full Thanksgiving meals, along with 40 large boxes/bags full of canned goods. Big thanks from our Residents & Families!
What a wonderful surprise! Methodist Services’ Housing/Residential Staff were thrilled to assist “Standin’Cannon” (Trent Williams), Meerah Saunders & Kennedy Johnson who arranged, hosted, served & donated Hot Buffet Meals for 100 Residents as a Pre-Thanksgiving Giveback. We also appreciate “AM, The DJ” for bringing his DJ’ing to this great event!
