A Message from the Director
There is a lot going on with GEO! The Green Energy Tour planning committee has been working hard to design an event that provides quality experiences for both site owners and Tour participants – there is more information below on the newly launched Tour website!
Also, I had the opportunity to give a presentation at the Richland Correctional Institution to a group of approximately 75 men who are interested in pursuing a career in the solar energy arena after they are released. GEO has a history of support for the program – Current and former Board members and volunteer activists Al Frasz, Jay Warmke, and Fred Michel have all played an important role in the program’s development. The facility is hosting a job fair on Tuesday, August 14 and I want to encourage solar companies in the GEO network to consider attending. These men have passed their ETA certification and are ready to work.

Under “Our Ohio Partners” you will see a note from AEP Energy on a new program they are launching which will also benefit GEO. For almost five years, GEO has partnered with AEP Energy to promote their Eco-Advantage renewable offering and we’ve earned $30 for every household that enrolled using our name or landing page on AEP Energy’s website . The new program introduces EV charging stations as part of the package and GEO will again receive $30 when you sign up!

I hope you are all enjoying your summer and will consider renewing your GEO membership or joining for the first time – we have a place for you in our great network of volunteers and clean energy activists!

Executive Director

The 2018 Green Energy Ohio Tour
Calling all prospective Host Sites and Sponsors for the 2018 Green Energy Ohio Tour, if you are interested in being a part of the annual showcase of green energy in Ohio visit our website! This FREE statewide event features self-guided and guided tours in each region of the state and highlights homes, businesses, and public buildings that are using green technologies such as solar, wind, geothermal, green design, and energy efficiency. Each Tour is made possible through site owners who share their hands-on experience with participants who want to learn more about clean energy technologies. Be sure to check the 2018 Green Energy Tour page often – throughout the next two months we will continue to add host sites, guided tours, featured locations, kick-off events and more.

Northeast Ohio is Primed to Compete in Renewable Manufacturing
GEO Member Steve Peplin, CEO of Talan Products, discussed why Northeast Ohio is well positioned to manufacture and compete in the renewable space on a recent WOSU interview . Location, infrastructure, and workforce provide the building blocks for a strong renewable energy manufacturing economy. There could be as many as 100 Northeast Ohio companies that serve the renewable energy sector, according to an estimate from  Wire-Net , an economic development non-profit tied to manufacturing. People often envision the finished product when thinking about renewable energy – the solar panels on your neighbor’s roof or the wind turbines in a nearby farm field – but all of those technologies depend on component parts and skilled labor to assemble them. Having a robust clean energy supply chain puts Ohio in an excellent position to contribute to this growing industry nationwide and, at the same time, ensure continued economic development in local communities.

Upcoming Events
Have you ever wondered what it takes to enable and incentivize solar energy in your community? Or what kind of jobs, and environmental and tax benefits solar projects could offer? If so, please join us for an educational workshop that will explore how state and local policies can attract new solar projects and green jobs.  The workshop will be held on August 1 at Denison University in Granville – there’s still time to register!

This workshop is open to any and all, but specifically geared towards Central Ohio decision-makers and their staff within county, township, city and village jurisdictions. Workshop participants will walk away with knowledge and resources that can be applied in home communities.

Hosted by Green Energy Ohio, The Ohio Environmental Council and Denison University, program information and registration can be found at on the OEC website .
