EXPANSION ON THE HORIZON FOR UCSF BENIOFF CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL WALNUT CREEK |
UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals continue to expand their capabilities to serve children in Contra Costa County at the Walnut Creek campus, 2401 Shadelands Drive, in the Shadelands business center.
The upcoming construction project involves renovating 7,000 square feet of former office space into a new subspecialty clinic with 12 exam rooms, six treatment rooms, a small lab with blood draw stations, and associated support spaces.
Construction will begin in November 2020, and the hospital will welcome patients in the new space in the Fall of 2021.
The clinic build-out will complement existing services currently delivered at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals Walnut Creek Campus, which include Outpatient Surgery with two operating rooms, Diagnostic Imaging with MRI and X-ray, Sports Medicine, Motion Lab, Audiology, and subspecialty clinics.
“This project has gone through several iterations of planning and design and I’m thrilled with the way the design and construction teams have come together for the benefit of the kids in our community," says Brad Rowell, Associate Director of Projects, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. "This clinic expansion provides space for clinicians to make a positive impact in the lives of our children for years to come.”

DELIGHTING CUSTOMERS FOR MORE THAN 25 YEARS |
Victor Chow, owner and operator of Deli Delight, has been dishing up deli delights for the Shadelands community since 1994, when he took over franchise operations of the former Potbelly Deli at 325 N. Wiget Lane. In 2007, Potbelly Deli was unfranchised and Victor became the sole owner and operator of the deli, renaming it Deli Delight on January 1, 2008.
Hundreds of Deli Delight regulars know the eatery for its coffees and specialty drinks, hot breakfasts, snacks, and lunch offerings—and friendly employees, who greet most regulars by name. Its dependably tasty food and warm, welcoming atmosphere make visitors want to sit and stay a while before dashing back to the office or off to scheduled meetings and appointments.
Closed this past March due to the pandemic, Deli Delight reopened in May with carry out and outdoor seating on its sunny patio, operating from 7am to 2pm, Monday through Friday. Deli Delight’s full menu is online at www.DeliDelightWC.com.
As county health regulations eased, Victor also welcomed diners back inside, at 25% capacity—which, for now, is about 25 people—with tables and chairs placed appropriately six feet apart. All health and safety requirements are enforced: Masks are required, hand sanitizer is available upon entering, and the deli is cleaned and sanitized after every seated customer.
“About 90% of our regular, return customers are people who work in the business park," says Victor. "This is a friendly and generally very busy restaurant, and it's always a pleasure welcoming customers to the deli and offering our food items and services."
With many employees still working from home, business has dropped from this time last year, but Victor is seeing business picking up.
“People are getting out for business and appointments, and we see more employees going back to work," says Victor. "People need a place for coffee and breakfast and lunch while they're in Shadelands, and we're happy that we're open and here for them. We look forward to welcoming customers back—or for the first time—to Deli Delight!”

KAIPERM CONTINUES THE DRIVE TO FEED THE HUNGRY |
Kaiperm Credit Union is a longtime supporter of Loaves and Fishes, a nonprofit that has been nourishing lives since 1983 because no one living in our communities should ever go hungry. Food drives are key to allowing the organization to continue serving the desperately hungry in Contra Costa County.
The food drive barrel in Kaiperm's lobby is intermittently full—thanks to the compassion and generosity of Shadelands neighbors and businesses—and empty, when the food is delivered to food pantries, and then distributed to the hungry.
The need continues. Please visit the big barrel in the lobby of Kaiperm Credit Union's Shadelands branch with donations of non-perishables.
Of particular need are bottles of water and canned proteins such as beans, tuna, chili, and soups.
Thanksgiving is a special time of year and a great opportunity to reflect and give to those in need. Turkeys and perishable items can be dropped off
