Walking into the Foundation office, Jessica Heldt brought a warm smile on a snowy day. A senior at BCCHS, she has been a part of the Billings Catholic Schools from the beginning of her education when she attended our preschool. Jessica is the kind of person we love to see emerging from our schools. Aside from excelling in her studies and being active in both choir and band, Jessica stands apart in her fierce commitment to the community.
The summer after her 8th grade year Jessica started volunteering at St. Vincent’s Hospital. Even though she was young, she loved the experience and has volunteered every summer since. When asked why she takes so much time to volunteer she said; “One person really can change somebody’s day, even if you don’t know the person you are helping. You can make a difference.”
That kind of attitude isn’t just remarkable, it is the kind of mindset that creates positive change in the world. We have no doubt she will do just that. Volunteering is a priority for Jessica, singing in church choirs all around Billings on Sundays and regularly donating blood. With a rare blood type she feels like this small act of kindness can “really help someone.” Most likely she has helped numerous people.
Jessica plans to attend Montana State University in the fall with an emphasis on Music Technology. One thing for sure, whatever community Jessica eventually calls home, will have gained one incredible individual. An individual who will make all of us associated with Billings Catholic Schools proud.
