Mental Health in the Adult I/DD Community

It is estimated that adults with I/DD have a significantly higher prevalence of mental health disorders compared to the neurotypical population.

Often, mental health disorders in the I/DD population are mistakenly identified as behavioral "problems".

If you suspect this may be happening to you or someone you care about, it's crucial to be an advocate, consult with mental health professionals, and actively pursue the most effective treatment options available.

Getting Out There!

Ask any Support Coordinator what their favorite part of the job is and you will most likely hear,

"going out on visits".

Interacting with the individuals we serve is the reason why most of us choose this line of work.

Our Support Coordinator, Julie, recently had the chance to attend a Mixed Martial Arts Class where she observed a few of the individuals she works with, actively participating and gaining lessons in cooperation, commitment, and, most importantly, enjoying themselves!

We are thankful to Life with Joy for inviting Julie to be a part of your class!
