Advent & Christmas

Special Edition

November 29, 2025

Look for the Light:

An Invitation to a Holy Advent & Christmas

Tomorrow, November 30, is the first Sunday of Advent 2025. Advent is the first season in the church year, and is a special time of preparation, hope, waiting, and expectation for the coming of Christ, beginning on the fourth Sunday before Christmas. Each Sunday of Advent, we will share in thoughtful worship and opportunities for fellowship. Resources are provided for prayer and reflection throughout the season. A calendar was mailed to homes and is provided at the end of this newsletter. Copies are available at church as well. Please read on for more details about what you can look forward to during Advent at St. Andrew's, as we move through these days of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love, to Christmas Eve and the celebration of our Savior's birth.

First Sunday of Advent: HOPE

Join Us for Advent Worship!

With Children’s Chapel and Our All-Parish Advent Event

Each Sunday we worship in person and online. We are always glad when you worship with us. Nursery care is available during worship, and we offer activity bags to keep little hearts and hands engaged. Our children will have a special Children's Chapel during worship to bring in the season. After church, we will gather in the Parish Hall for our All-Parish Advent Event. Episcopal 101 will meet in the Chapel for its closing session.

Start the New Church Year with Our All-Parish Advent Event

November 30, after Worship

We will gather in the Parish Hall for our All-Parish Advent Event tomorrow after church! Everything you need to make your own Advent wreath will be provided, and we’ll enjoy fellowship, conversation, refreshments, and hot chocolate (or coffee!) while we build wreaths together. A donation of $10 per wreath-making kit is welcomed but not required. Be sure to look for our Advent devotionals which will be available, and join Pat Marsh in the Sanctuary for a Chrismon Conversation.

We Need Your Greenery for Advent Wreaths

Bring on Sunday, November 30

We have all the supplies needed for beautiful Advent wreaths to light the season, except for fresh greenery! If you’re trimming greens in your yard or you have extra Christmas tree cuttings, please bring them to the Parish Hall before church next Sunday!

Episcopal 101: Learn about the Episcopal Church

All are welcome for the last session in this class on the basics of the Episcopal Church. Come explore the faith, beliefs, history, structure, and practices of the Church, with plenty of space to ask questions! We will meet in the Chapel.

Questions? Contact Spencer by email (link below) or at 706-233-1223.

Second Sunday of Advent: PEACE

Our Bishop’s Visitation is December 7

Bishop Sam will preach and celebrate eucharist and will preside over confirmation and reception. After worship, all are invited to the Parish Hall to meet with Bishop Sam for Cake & Conversation. We hope all will join us for this special occasion.

Third Sunday of Advent: JOY

Bring a Friend to Our Advent Service of Lessons & Carols

December 14, 10 a.m.

Join us on the Third Sunday of Advent for our Advent Service of Lessons & Carols. This service consists of scripture readings interspersed with choral presentations and hymns, all of which recall mankind’s longing for liberation from sin and death, and our hope and expectation for the coming of Christ the Lord. Through our experience of sacred Word and music, the story unfolds gradually and deepens our understanding of God’s message of love and redemption. A harpist and violinist will accompany our carol service this year. May the words and music of this service draw you toward the true joy of Christmas.

Walking in Love We Need Your Pledges

Thank you for your participation in our annual giving campaign for 2026. Everything we do is through your generosity. If you haven’t pledged yet, please send in your pledge card or pledge online using the link below. As you prayerfully consider your pledge this year, know that every gift is appreciated. Each gift matters. May we give generously and joyfully so that St. Andrew’s continues to grow in Christ’s love and compassion.

Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children, and walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself for us, an offering and sacrifice to God.  Ephesians 5:1–2

We Need Your Burgundy Bag Donations!

Our Burgundy Bag food donations are an outward and visible sign of St. Andrew’s mission of “feeding the hungry.” Each week, our donations are delivered to the One Step Further Food Pantry to support their vital efforts to relieve food insecurity in Greensboro.

Most needed food items include: rice, pasta, beans (dried and canned), canned vegetables, and canned meats and fish.

Please pick up and drop off in the Sanctuary narthex and the hallway by the Chapel. Thank you for helping St. Andrew's feed the hungry. Contact Doug Sanecki with questions.
