Founded in 1930, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Trumbull County provides immediate relief to those on the edge of poverty. We help neighbors in crisis maintain self-sufficiency and dignity by providing emergency mortgage, rent or utility payments; food, clothing, furniture, factory fresh bedding and other assistance as needed. SVdP puts hope into action to prevent poverty from spreading to another family.

A Good and Faithful Servant:
William ‘Whitey” Taneri
The SVdP family lost a good friend, true gentleman and kind soul on July 21, 2020. Whitey was a member of St. John Paul II Conference and SVdP volunteer for nearly 30 years. His tireless efforts included driving truck for furniture donations and deliveries, picking up food for the Dining Hall and working tirelessly in the Thrift Store, just to name a few. At age 94, until COVID-19 forced him to shelter in place, Whitey continued to volunteer twice weekly as a cashier in the Thrift Store because, as he would say with a smile, “I love talking to people and getting their stories.” He was much-loved by customers and staff members. His quick wit, the incredible stories of his days as a highly decorated U.S. Navy Seaman and his sunny disposition will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Rest in Peace, dear friend.

huge time commitment but
our volunteers always make an impact!

Communication – professionals with backgrounds in news writing, web writing, video editing or social media management. Flexible hours and the ability to work remote.
|

Dining Hall – individual and group volunteers are needed in our Dining Hall and local community pantries.
|

Data Entry - workers will assist with updating records, corresponding with donors and volunteers, filing paperwork or developing monthly reports. Flexible hours.
|

Thrift Store - Associates help by sorting, testing and pricing donated items. Stocking shelves, organizing merchandise, greeting customers, setting up displays and providing customer service are key components as well.

St. Stephen Conference President Retires

After more than 35 years of devoted service, Frank Burke has retired as President of St. Stephen Conference. Frank has been a pillar of endurance for SVdP and words cannot adequately express our appreciation for all of his hard work and contributions to the Society and to the community. We know you will all join us in wishing Frank well as he takes a much deserved respite.

their ongoing personal commitment
to serving others.
Dominic Battaglia:
A true jack-of-all-trades, Dom has spent decades volunteering in nearly every capacity possible with SVdP. A member of St. Stephen Conference, he was a former co-worker on the Thrift Store donation truck crew and then store sales team member; he has also spent countless years preparing and serving meals in the Dining Hall and is the SVdP “on-call” contractor for handyman projects – no matter how large or small.
Kathy Sweet: Kathy is an esteemed decades-long member of St. Mary Conference and one of the Thrift Store's most trusted and reliable volunteers. Over the past three years, Kathy has proven to be an indispensable part of the team who always goes "above and beyond" - including sewing dozens of masks for staff, volunteers and customers and continually stepping in to cover shifts whenever needed.

A WORD FROM OUR PRESIDENT
As we continue to navigate the ‘new normal’ that COVID-19 has charted for us, I would like to express my deepest gratitude and thanks to the 100 + volunteers and staff who have worked tirelessly to provide the programs and services for SVdP Trumbull County. Without each of you we would never be able to persevere in our mission to help those in need during this pandemic. The services we have been able to offer are made possible by your passion, dedication and selfless determination. I ask each of you to take a wide-lens view at the collective good that you contribute. You are God’s ministry in motion and the numerous acts of grace that you share does not go unnoticed. For those volunteers who must still shelter-in-place, I ask for your continued prayers as we await your safe return. On behalf of myself, and the communities we serve, I humbly thank you all.
