Hi everyone, happy summer! This is Sujii Reganti , your 2023-2024 NSMA president!
Your membership is at the core of organized medicine and you deserve to be heard. Our physicians have made it clear that they priorititze advocacy and advancing an agenda that protects physicians, their practices and their patients.
In response, NSMA has made a major shift in our structure, and we created a Policy Director position that will enable us to properly advocate and address our issues in the community. We are excited to welcome Jacqueline Nguyen, Esq. to build this new role and she has already proven to be incredibly pro-active and effective during our legislative interim session. Advocacy is the key to our success and Jacqueline, with our lobbying team, has already made great strides to represent physician interests with our government agencies, interim committees and with stakeholders in our community. As Policy Director, she leads our efforts in government affairs and runs our Nevada MEDPAC.
In July, we launched multiple surveys to our membership asking them about the top challenges they face in their practice as well as their top legislative priorities. Your Executive Council and Government Affairs Commission physician leaders are now homing in on our focus issues for the year. With the upcoming election season and legislative session, your involvement is critical. As a member of the NSMA, we invite you to join the GAC meetings monthly. Also, as a physician, we invite you to contribute to NV MEDPAC and encourage all your colleagues to do so as well.
To have a maximum impact, we need financial strength and strong membership support! These two have been our focus this year.
Regarding membership, we are working closely with our counties, CCMS, WCMS, Carson Douglas, and the rurals, to increase benefits and engagement opportunities. We have created other ways of strengthening our ties with large group practices, local hospitals and associations by creating corporate membership categories. This will ensure we speak with one voice when representing our state.
This year I had an opportunity to attend the annual American Medical Association meeting in Chicago, which allowed me to witness how hard our delegates work to advocate for our patients and physicians. The main issues AMA is advocating for and NSMA is working closely on are prior authorization, Medicare reimbursement, physician burn out, and scope of practice, which are very important to all practicing physicians in our country. We will work hand in hand with AMA on these federal issues as we also look at our state priorities.
A lot of exciting things are in the works and we invite you to get involved. NSMA’s annual delegate meeting will take place Sep 20-22nd at the M Resort in Las Vegas, so please sign up as a delegate! We welcome new voices and ideas! Apart from the business conducted, there will be many chances to network with your fellow physicians from across Nevada. Friday night, we will host a NV MEDPAC Legislative Mixer, where all are welcome. That will be followed by a Legislative Dinner Panel. Then on Saturday night, we will be welcoming incoming President, Dr. Joseph Adashek at the NSMA inauguration gala! Both dinners are ticketed events. Please join us as I look forward to seeing you all in person.
If you are not a member yet, please sign up if you want to be part of the one voice that strongly advocates for our patients. You can contact me or our team executive director Sarah Watkins for more information!
You deserve to be heard! We don’t want someone else to decide on our future!
