April 2021: A Message from Canon Jennifer
|
|
Dear families,
Alleluia, Christ is risen! Happy Easter to you – parents, children, and all whom you call family! We rejoice at all the signs of new life around us – the sunny weather, flowers blooming, and a steady rise in vaccinations. I pray you are able to soak in some warmth in the coming days and rediscover what it means to play. This summer we hope to be able to gather outdoors, enjoy each other’s company, and catch up in person. We’ll send more info when we have clarity on how that might happen safely.
Even as our spirits lift, I want to acknowledge the fatigue and burdens parents have carried over the last year as you quickly readjusted work and family life to accommodate shifting school plans and guide your children through this time of uncertainty. It may take some time for families to feel like they are living a new and sustainable “normal.” Please know that the clergy, Ms. Gilmore, and all your ministry leaders are here for you as you transition to what comes next.
Sunday morning faith formation concludes on Sunday, May 23, the Feast of Pentecost. We are especially grateful for our teachers Alicia Goodwin, Sonjia Gavin, and Kristen Kelly. They have gathered your children each week with creative spirits and loving energy; please join me in giving thanks to them! Faith formation for children, youth, and families will strike different rhythms across the summer, but we are also wanting to seek your input as we conceive the vision for Children’s and Family Ministry as we move forward. Please see the note below from Dean Thomason for more about that and join the conversation.
Christ is risen indeed, alleluia!
Peace and virtual hugs to each of you,

Reimagining Formation Ministry in the Post-Pandemic World
Saint Mark’s Vestry has retained a nationally-recognized consultant, Jamie Martin-Currie of Houston, Texas, to guide a process of reflecting and dreaming together as we forge a vision for our formation ministries in this new era. Every person in the cathedral community will be invited to participate and provide input. Details about those opportunities will be communicated in the coming weeks. For more information, contact Dean Thomason, sthomason@saintmarks.org

Choir School Schedule for Spring 2021
We are so grateful to have had over a year now of online Choir School time with choristers. Nothing is as good as singing together in our marvelous cathedral but we have retained a great sense of community during the cathedral closure and managed to challenge ourselves along the way.
Out of an abundance of caution, Jr. and Sr. Chorister rehearsals will remain entirely virtual for the rest of this season. The Schola's Wednesday evening rehearsals will remain virtual as well, but we will be inviting the Schola to offer the final Evensong service of the season on June 6th, on their own, as we mark the graduation of three of our singers.
Here is the schedule for the remaining weeks of this season. Again, all rehearsals will be over Zoom.
April 20/21 - Regular weekly rehearsals resume through May
May 29/30 - Last regular rehearsals for the season
June 2 - Schola Zoom rehearsal 7-7:45 p.m.
June 6 - Schola in-person Evensong service 4:30 p.m., with 2:30 p.m. call time
