Meet the 2025 Lowell High Tsongas Scholarship Awardees

Congratulations to the winners of the 2025 Paul Tsongas Scholarship, Surika Praik & Caroline Chimm!

The Tsongas Scholarship is a prestigious award given to two Lowell High graduates each year and cover four yeas of tuition, room and board scholarship at the University of Massachusetts Lowell! Here's what they had to say about what this opportunity means to them:

"Being awarded this scholarship was truly an honor and I'm beyond grateful to have been chosen.

I’m often asked why I’m so motivated to get involved in my community and it's really just a rewarding feeling to be able to assist people. As the end of my high school career approached, I often wondered if I’d be able to continue this passion in college and worried about my workload, considering I now had to think about paying for tuition.

This scholarship has lifted that financial burden and I will make the most of this opportunity that allows me more time to continue exploring extracurriculars while prioritizing academics."

- Caroline Chimm

"To me, this scholarship not only commends my achievements, but also reminds me to keep being myself. I love what I did despite the challenges of balancing my school work and my extracurriculars.

I was a carney medalist and class officer, taking up two seats on the graduation stage. To be rewarded this scholarship means I can make the most out of my college education, build more connections, and continue to leave my mark on the world.

For the next four years, I will be reminded of what it took and carry it with me as motivation to keep pushing myself further."

- Surika Praik

As they begin their journeys at UMass Lowell this fall, we know they’ll continue to make the LHS community proud!
