International Progressive Dinner

Saturday, January 25th, 3 PM-6 PM

The diversity of families at AMIS represent the American cultural mosaic. Jimmy Carter in his Nobel Prize-winning speech said:

We become not a melting pot but a beautiful mosaic. Different people, different beliefs, different yearnings, different hopes, different dreams.

At this year's dinner:

AMIS-Druid Hills will join with us in celebration!

The winter break is a wonderful time to talk with relatives, explore recipes, find profound images, and gather artifacts that could support the transformations of the classroom environments.

Each classroom at AMIS has selected a country. For the progressive dinner, many parents cook a dish with their children for the classroom. Brought with the dish is a small card listing the name of the dish and the ingredients used. All dishes MUST be nut-free . A portion is considered to be a 4 oz. sample cup.

It is important that this event does not represent a financial burden to any of our families. Costs can add up when a classroom elects to cater a meal, or if families are asked to purchase costumes. Your room parent will guide you through this event. Classroom participation is essential and expected, and will remove the additional expense of catering and store-bought outfits. We do very much encourage families to dress in traditional cultural dress from their country-it does not have to be the country your classroom is celebrating. Ultimately, we are celebrating each other!

You'll find the list of countries below. If you have a connection with any of the countries represented, please consider providing support to that room-it does not have to be your child's room.

Do you have traditional clothing from that country? Can you teach the children to write their names in your mother tongue? Can you share a traditional game? Do you have music from that country? Secret family recipes to make? Historical items? Every contribution is such a gift to the evening.
