We're just a few weeks into 2019 and we are busy preparing for what will be a very special 10th anniversary year for PCL. As a nonprofit, successful fundraising is always uppermost in our minds, so we are delighted to announce that Michael Bordonaro has joined us as our new Director of Philanthropy. The Friends of PCL's 2019 Spelling Bee is almost upon us (have you bought your tickets yet?) and, today, PCL is announcing that our second rappelling fundraiser, Rappel for PCL,will take place on May 4. Sign up and help make this our biggest fundraiser yet, so we can provide more materials,services and programs for everyone in Providence!

The third annual PCL Spelling Bee will take place once again at the downtown location of AS220. 

Doors open at 6:45PM. If you want to compete, plan to get there when the doors open because it's first come, first served to sign up and places are strictly limited! Children under 18 are welcome but must be accompanied at all times by an adult.

PCL will partner with Over the Edge and Regency Plaza Apartments for a second year to create Rappel for PCL, a truly memorable fundraising experience that should have pride of place on anyone's bucket list! You have a second chance to rappel down the 150 feet high Regency Plaza Apartments building on Saturday, May 4, to help raise $100,000 for our nine neighborhood libraries. 


FundaFest Workshops @PCL

PCL is excited to host three performances during the 21st Annual FUNDA FEST: A Celebration of Black Storytelling from January 26-February 3, 2019. FUNDA FEST is Rhode Island Black Storytellers' big week long celebration of storytelling  - funda means means to teach and to learn in Zulu and KiSwahili - and features spoken word concerts and workshops for people of all ages. It's a highlight of the winter calendar for the Ocean State, so be sure to save the following dates:

It might be the depths of winter right now but green fingered gardeners everywhere are already planning their spring planting. PCL can help, thanks to our continued partnership with a free seed program managed by the University of Rhode Island.

If the PCL's maker space areas look like fun, it's because they are! Try your hand at makerspace creativity with access to Washington Park's sewing machine, 3D printer, coding robots, and vinyl cutter and heat press to make designs on fabrics.

Passport Day at Rochambeau

Rochambeau Library is pleased to announce it is planning to hold a Passport Day on the evening of Monday, February 25.  U.S. citizens planning international travel may apply for their passports at the library between 5:00 and 8:00 pm.  

Reusable Bag Swaps at PCL Locations

Did you know that 1 00 billion plastic bags pass through the hands of U.S. consumers every year(link is external)-almost one bag per person each day? Laid end-to-end, they could circle the equator 1,330 times! 

PCL is playing a small part in the effort to reduce the use of single-use plastic bags by hosting Reusable Bag Swap stations on behalf of the Zero Waste Providence working group.
