Dear Friends of East Bay Center,

Once again, our students – old and new – had an inspiring and art-filled summer here at the Center. We recently wrapped up our 5-week Young Artist Diploma Program Summer Intensive with a series of recitals for students to showcase all that they learned over the summer. Students were able to take a deep dive into their chosen artistic mediums while also getting the chance to explore new art forms. It is truly amazing how energizing it is to be around the creativity and curiosity of 120+ students each day.

Now, we are looking forward to an exciting and full fall season at the Center. Our onsite group classes and private lessons begin September 16, and we are also preparing to start our programs at South Richmond public schools, including weekly in-school music classes, after-school performing arts classes, and assemblies with special performances from faculty artists. Be sure to follow us on social media to stay up-to-date and hear more about programs, events and performances this Fall!

Alumna Profile: Alyssa Villanueva
Recognized for her outstanding performance of the Cowardly Lion in the Center’s 2017 production of “The Wiz (Mostly),” Alyssa is known as a focused and mature dancer and actress. In addition to ballet, aerial dance, acting (from Shakespeare to dark works like “Pillowman” to “The Wiz”), Alyssa is also very interested in playwriting. Born in Belize, and now living in Richmond, Alyssa has drawn on Kriol as a second language to use in her dramatic writing. Alyssa graduated from El Cerrito High School in May and spent the summer working as an intern at the Center. In September, Alyssa will begin attending her dream school: The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow.
