FROM THE SENIOR PASTOR
Christ Is Risen
Although the resurrection of Jesus Christ is central to the Christian faith, there may be a tendency in some churches to only celebrate the resurrection on Easter Sunday! But without the resurrection of Jesus, there is no forgiveness of sins and no future resurrection for us. As Paul states, “If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied” (1 Corinthians 15:19). But Paul quickly goes on to say, “But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1 Corinthians 15:19–20).

So as we come to the penultimate message of Matthew’s Gospel this Sunday, our focus is on the historical fact that Jesus bodily rose from the dead and is alive forevermore. If that is true — and it is — everything is different for those of us who are followers of Jesus Christ. I love preaching on the resurrection as it emphasizes that the Christian hope is not based upon rituals or traditions or on what we do, but on the risen Christ. In our sad world of despair, disillusionment, and disappointments, let’s remind everyone that Christ is risen, as He said!
