Wishing you good times, good cheer

and a memorable new year.

All of us at Paws in Prison want to thank you for your loyalty and support this past year! We hope to see you again this year!

A RECAP OF 2025!

TWENTY-FOUR dogs were adopted! This doesn't sound like much compared to the shelters and other rescues, but we have the timeline for the dog to complete their training and are limited in the number of dogs we can intake due to the flux of paroles and other outside factors.

Congratulations to these dogs and their new families!

THREE scholarships awarded this year! Two were granted to current inmates to take a "Canine Specialist" course and one to our social media director for a "Social Media Strategist" course.

FIVE grants received! Ladies of Charity Lakeway, Miranda Lambert's MuttNation, National Christian Charities, MMH Family Charitable Fund, and the Ed Rachal Foundation returned to donate after supporting in previous years. These grants represent a 167% increase from last year!

$72,000+ in private donations this year. This is an increase of 2.5% from 2025.

NINE private donors that contributed $1,000 and over this year! Thank you to Jessica C, Joel & Carol Anne C, John & Katie Hansen Family Foundation, Julie F, Jeri M, Kathy S, Laurie S, Sarah V, and Steve's Real Food.

Paws Day Pass was established with the support of Beyond the Bark. This is a new program where volunteers handle the dogs and are led by trainers. The available dogs are brought into public spaces to better evaluate personalities and to enrich their experience by escaping the monotony of prison life.

3,000+ combined followers on the "Friends of Paws in Prison, Inc Support Group" and "Paws in Prison - Lockhart, TX" groups on Facebook and "pawsinprisontx" on Instagram. In the past six months, we had over 16,000 views on our posts, nearly doubling last year's views!

324 members of the private Paws in Prison Alumni Facebook group. This is where our former program participants can keep in touch and support one another.

THE ANNUAL DORM HOLIDAY PARTY

Many thanks for all who donated towards this party and to Ladies of Charity Lakeway for joining us in the celebration!

The dorm was covered with a Dr. Seuss theme. All of the decor was hand made by the inmates.

Custom cards were presented to the Board and our donor guests, as well as the training staff.

Very special rosary beads were hand carved out of soap for our Ladies of Charity guests!

The weather was beautiful and all enjoyed their romp time in the yard.

The dogs selected their own toys. See Cookie (available for adoption) below struggling with the all the stuffed choices and Carrie, Paws Day Pass Trainer, guiding his way.

Chisholm trail BBQ discounted the delicious chicken, macaroni and cheese, beans, and banana pudding for all to share.

The ladies received full size toiletry items, a treat most of us take for granted.

Notice below the new quote from our Executive Director painted above the windows on the wall. Isn't that a valuable life skill?!

Our Senior trainers and mentors with the former Senior and Mentors are photographed below in front of the craft tree and the Whoville train.

Paws in Prison's New Year Resolutions

  1. Secure a location for a "Second Chances" art show and auction. As you can see, we have some talented artists, and we need a venue to host a fundraiser to share their original pieces in a night of celebration. Do you have an appropriate place in Central Texas to share?
  2. Have our followers become "Fundraising Champions" for Amplified Austin in March. This is an easy way to help us by utilizing your own network for donations. No matter how small the donations from your friends and family, this role is how the charities receive bonus and matching funds. Next month, we will begin sharing how you can commit to this easy way to promote us in our "small" charity category. You can even participate without living in the area.
  3. Develop an adoption waiting list for our dogs! Did you know you can adopt a dog while it completes their training? An adoption application is always the first step. Your family and pets will have the opportunity to meet the dog before committing to their forever. Streamlining the adoptions prevents the dogs from spending too much time in the institution and allows us to commit to more shelter dogs.
  4. Build our volunteer list with the hopes of securing committed people that could grow into a volunteer Board member. A consulting veterinarian would also be a great asset! Can you share your time and talents?
  5. And, of course, grow our support base. Consistent dog food donations would be a blessing to alleviate that necessary expense! Securing corporate donors could sponsor a scholarship and/or a dog's care in exchange for recognition and bragging rights. Do you know of a company or individual that can commit to supporting Paws in Prison?

Thank you!

For helping us save more than dogs!

We're sorry if we omitted any names from those of you who helped us in any capacity this month, but we do not always know the names of our Paws in Prison angels! Thank you to Stephen & Catherine B, Jessica C, Pat & Carol Anne C, Debra B, Diane B, Darla F, Beverly H, Daniel H, Shawn J, Jeri M, Timothy M, Paw Basics, Kathy S, Laurie S, Procopio S, Sarah V, Ruby W, and the 80s Ladies!

Monthly donations, no matter the size, help us know what we can count on each month. Thank you to Sharlene E, Daniel H, Marcus L, Debbie M, Jennifer K, Shelly R, and Diana S for your continued support!
