2023 Board Chair Reflections

Sarah Murph, Parrish Construction Group

I am incredibly proud of the milestones we achieved as a Chamber throughout the past year. Standing on this stage after David Danzie passed the gavel and bid farewell with his trademark "peace out," I reflected on the priorities we set for our organization. Blending the wisdom of past leaders with our vision for the future, we diligently focused on issues that mattered most to the business community.

One notable accomplishment was the revitalization and strengthening of our Chamber's Public Policy Council, a collective of influential leaders representing a diverse range of interests and industries in our community. Collaborating with policymakers at the local, state, and federal levels, this group reviewed policies, monitored legislation, and made recommendations based on valuable input from our members.

We also dedicated ourselves to advancing pro-business measures at the state level, advocating for workforce development, infrastructure improvements, sound fiscal policies, defense community security, and veterans' affairs. Engaging in study committees, we offered our

insights on critical matters such as occupational licensure, tax policy, and housing, ensuring the voice of the business community in the Robins Region was heard.

Locally,  in collaboration with our dynamic BOSS Food Pros group, we championed the successful passage of the Brunch Bill in the City of Warner Robins. This achievement created a level playing field for Sunday alcohol sales, aligning us with neighboring cities and fostering a thriving business environment. Additionally, we advocated for the approval of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST), which will provide vital funding for projects aimed at promoting connectivity and enhancing the quality of life in Houston County.

Throughout the year, we remained proactive and steadfast in addressing issues that were significant to our business community. Our commitment was evident in the successful return and revamp of our Outlook Series. Hosting an Economic Outlook specific to Houston County and a Housing Outlook with esteemed panelists from the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and local industry experts, we provided invaluable insights to our members.

Furthermore, we formalized offerings for our top investors, chamber leadership and community partners, now collectively referred to as our “Robins Circle.” These small but significant changes will create a stronger group identity while providing a platform that enhances access to state officials and subject-matter experts, foster even stronger collaborations, and facilitate more robust exchanges of knowledge and ideas.

These accomplishments were augmented by other significant milestones, including another remarkable year of membership growth, increased event attendance and participation, and surpassing 50,000 active members of Robins To-Go. These achievements underscore our unwavering dedication to our mission as a catalyst for business growth, connecting opportunities with prosperity.

Looking back at the past year, I am immensely proud of the strides we made as a Chamber. It is a privilege to serve as board chair for such a remarkable organization, and I am excited for what lies ahead as we continue to drive business growth and foster lasting connections within our community through our unwavering commitment to “taking care of business.” The video below contains just a glimpse of this past year with your Chamber.
