Looking Back With Pleasure and Pride

Some big wins for organizations in our network in 2024

Nevertheless, She Persisted

For the entire time we've known her, EGF Accelerator Fellow Jill Moses has been tirelessly raising funds to open a state-of-the-art early intervention center for kids in the Bronx. At the end of 2024, she held a ribbon cutting on her new space. Many thanks to the EGF Accelerator Trustees and the funders in our network, including the Heckscher Foundation for Children who responded so enthusiastically to her great idea.

Press Pass NYC Opened Yet Another New Online Student News Site

Hatched in our Fellows program, this organization has been opening student-run news sites in public high schools around the city. Helping students learn to think and write (and rewrite) with clarity and precision helps them become college-ready. And building community helps them to be a better, more engaged New Yorkers. Check out one of their newest publication, a thriving news site at the Urban Assembly Gateway School for Technology in Manhattan.

After an EGF Accelerator leadership seminar on corporate sponsorship, the nimble folks at Harlem Free Fight, shining stars of the EGF Accelerator Fellows program, connected with Adidas and secured a $75,000 grant and plenty of consulting. Also, free sneakers. Harlem Free Fight provides free boxing and Brazilian jiu jitsu training to teens in NYC, using combat sports as a tool to mentor youth.

Jabreel Jalloh, Community Organizer, Meets Another Very Famous Community Organizer

So pleased to see EGF Accelerator Fellow, Jabreel Jalloh, (second from left) founder of The Flossy, in deep conversation Barack Obama.(far right, but you knew that.) We were thrilled when Jabreel was named an Obama Foundation Scholar. And we are encouraging others to check out that program.
