Burgess helps MMA
promote
great jobs in our own
backyard with launch of
HoMEtown Careers!

Our HoMEtown Careers videos feature eight
up-and-coming employees of Maine towns and cities.

With Maine experiencing low unemployment of 3.5%, Maine towns and cities face a growing challenge filling a diverse range of jobs, including town government, police, fire/safety and medical personnel. To help address this problem, the Maine Municipal Association (MMA) engaged Burgess to create a strategic awareness campaign, which we named "HoMEtown Careers."
On January 30, we launched a web landing page, MaineHoMEtownCareers.org, digital ads and a social media campaign aimed at attracting a new generation of workers to careers in MMA's 485 member municipalities.
The centerpiece of the campaign is a series of videos featuring interviews with eight up-and-coming municipal employees from across the state, who tell why they've chosen a
Maine HoMEtown C
areer: good pay, excellent benefits, job security, proximity to friends and family, quality of life, and the ability to contribute to the community.
The web page also provides descriptions of common municipal jobs, selected job listings, and a portal for MMA members to access materials to promote local job openings directly.

Burgess garners two 2017
Golden Arrow Awards
|
The Maine Public Relations Council's 2017 Golden Arrows Awards Ceremony was postponed to January 10 because of snow, but it was worth the wait: we brought home two Silver awards, both for our efforts on behalf of clients who help make Maine a better place to live, learn and work:
Client: Educate Maine
Category: Website (Nonprofit)
This nonprofit brings together educators, businesses and other leaders toward the vital goal of preparing Mainers for post-secondary school success. Our website brought together the parent brand and other key programs (Maine Teacher of the Year, Project>Login, and Education Leaders Experience) under a unified look and feel.
Learn all about this great organization and check out the web presence we created for them at EducateMaine.org.

Client: Healthy Androscoggin/REACH
Category: Innovative Use of Social Media
Lewiston-Auburn's "New Mainers"--African immigrants and refugees--now account for 11% of the population. To address their healthcare needs in a culturally and linguistically appropriate way, in 2014, Healthy Androscoggin was awarded a four-year Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) Grant from the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Healthy Androscoggin chose Burgess as its marketing partner to raise awareness of "cultural competence" needs and resources. Among several tactics, we created a multi-pronged social media campaign last summer designed to "REACH" out to New Mainers, local providers, and the public.

Happy 2018!
Along with all the work we do for our regular clients, we're also proud to contribute our time and expertise to good causes. One of these is the 18
th
Annual Sugarloaf Charity Summit, held on Saturday, January 27
th,
which raised more than $250,000 for the Maine Cancer Foundation, the Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center, and the Dempsey Center.
|
Kudos to our team, especially Keva Crockett and Christina Hill, for their excellent work in creating the event program and all the other support materials, which earned us a surprise 2018 Sugarloaf Summiteer Award! Thank you Sugarloaf!
|
Hoping your year is also off to a great start! I would love to talk with you anytime about how Burgess can help magnify and sharpen your brand to make it work harder for you.
|
PS: I urge everyone to check out MaineHoMEtownCareers.org, and meet some of the amazing young municipal government stars. Who knows: you may see a job for someone you know looking for a new carer path!

In December, Tammy White joined us as Controller/HR Manager, bringing 30 years of experience in various small businesses, non-profits and public accounting. Tammy is a licensed private pilot, SCUBA diver, proud marathoner, past Board member at Sweetser, and a devoted volunteer in helping feed the disadvantaged.
In welcoming Tammy, we also bid a fond farewell to Lori Davis, our finance maven for 17 years, and her Corgi mix, Sadie. On a recent visit, Lori reported that she is enjoying her new part-time position at the Biodiversity Research Institute in Portland.
