The Older Adult Ministry newsletter is pleased to share information from United Church Homes, which is offering fall “Abundant Aging” classes. The Wisconsin Conference Older Adult Ministry Team also invites you to join the authors of Aging Together for a discussion of ministry with older adults from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 14. Susan H. McFadden and John T. McFadden will facilitate a Zoom conversation on "Congregations as Schools for Friendship" (chapter 9 of their book). Register now.

Chair Yoga for Movement. Prolonged sitting can negatively impact health. Studies show that even short breaks to move can help counteract the harmful effects of sitting. The class will include movements for legs, hips, arms, as well as core strengthening of neck, back, chest and torso. Chair yoga is a gentle way to improve your flexibility and strength while seated in a chair. Standing postures with the chair as a support will also be an option. Meets from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays from Oct. 2-Nov. 20 (eight 45-minute classes). Register here

Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones from Scams: How to Recognize Scams and Financial Exploitation. Scammers are becoming more sophisticated, making it harder than ever to recognize fraud. Whether it’s a phone call, email, or even someone you trust, financial scams can put your hard-earned money and assets at risk. This class will include practical steps and trusted resources to help protect yourself and your loved ones from financial exploitation. Intermissio: A Pause to Listen in a More Profound Way. Before the busy-ness of the holidays kicks in, take this time to pause together to listen and see in a deeper way. We will experience poetry, music, art, and wisdom writings, sharing periods of silence and words of reflection, attentive to the divine touch. Having done so, we will then take time to consider and discuss what we have found meaningful. Meets from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesdays Oct. 22, Nov. 5 and 19 and Dec. 3 (four 60-minute classes).
