In collaboration with the Cabarrus Arts Council for Family Day, Opera Xpress is presenting 2 free performances of “Los Coyotes y Las Conejas” (The Coyotes and the Rabbits) 🦊🐰 by Héctor Armienta in the Davis Theatre.

🎭📚 Embark on a bilingual adventure with a coyote learning to read, a loco cousin aiming for change, and mischievous rabbits out for fun! Witness their misadventures guided by Chiquita and Banana, who have their own fun with Loco and his reluctance to embrace education.

🏔️🏃‍♂️ Embark on the Mount Afton Challenge – A Run for Mental Health!

The Mount Afton Challenge invites everyone, from runners to walkers, for a thrilling experience in support of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.

📅 Saturday, Jan 13th from 8-10am

📍 Afton Village (Concord), 5401 Village Drive NW, Concord, NC 28027

What's the Challenge? 🏁 Participants are challenged to complete as many 1-mile laps as possible within the 2-hour event. Whether you choose to run, ruck, or walk, set your pace and go the distance. Feel free to take breaks and join the camaraderie. Awards await the top finishers who conquer the Mount Afton Challenge!

Why the Cause? 🤝 The Mount Afton Challenge isn't just a run; it's a local fundraiser dedicated to Mental Health and Suicide Prevention services. Through the F3 Foundation, the funds raised will be donated to the Cabarrus County Chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) in honor of Damon “F3 Amway” Hudgens.

Did You Know? 💔 According to the CDC, a suicide occurred every 11 minutes in 2021, with over 1.70 million attempts. Let's lace up, join forces, and make a difference!

🍻 Southern Strain Brewing Company is launching🔥Fire Pit Fridays thanks to a one-of-a-kind custom fire pit that was donated to the patio by one of its dedicated customers. 🙌🏽 This Friday, it is also releasing "Frosty Nuggets," an annual favorite 🍺 seasonal imperial IPA brewed around the new year. Available on draft and super special dry-hopped cask. Cask is this Friday ONLY. Don't miss out on this highly requested ❄️ winter warmer of an IPA!

👨🏻‍👧🏻 The City of Kannapolis is hosting a Daddy Daughter Winter Ball ❄️ on Saturday, Jan 20th at 6pm in the Laureate Center at Kannapolis City Hall. Girls, ages 5 years and older, are encouraged to bring their father, step-father, grandfather, brother, or another special gentleman in their life. 🕺👔 The attire ranges from dressy to casual, so suits with ties and khakis with polos are acceptable. 🎟️ Tickets are $50 per couple, and $20 for each additional daughter. Ticket price includes 🍽️ light hors d’oeuvres, 👑 princess meet and greet, entertainment, 💃 dancing, and a 📸photo booth. Tickets must be purchased in advance and this event sells out quickly so get yours online or 📞 call 704-920-4343.

🥾 Looking for a New Year Hike? Cabarrus County Active Living and Parks is hosting one at Rob Wallace Park🌲on Jan 13th from 2-3:30pm. For $2, you’ll enjoy a family-friendly hike followed by ☕ hot cocoa, crafts, and a visit with ambassador animals. For more information and to register visit its website under 2nd Saturdays at the Park.
