We Will Celebrate Communion This Sunday

Pretty Little Lies
We are nearing the end of our series on the Ten Commandments.  I hope you have learned some things about the law.  John Calvin one of the great leaders and scholars of the church said that the Law has three important uses:
  1. It is a mirror to help us see our sin which in turn drives us to the Cross of Christ.
  2. It restrains evil in our world. People don't sin as much as they would if there were no law.  The fear of punishment helps us stay within the boundaries.
  3. Finally, the law shows us how to please God.  When we come to understand and embrace God's grace we want to live grateful lives. The law is a starting point for knowing how to show our gratitude to God by the way we live.  See you Sunday!
God's Law is surprisingly powerful in what it accomplishes. It is an indispensable part of God's plan to rescue us.  We cannot fully understand the wonder of His grace until we understand the depth of our own sin.

This weekend we tackle the topic of honesty.  I have found this series to be incredibly practical.  Each commandment has something to say about the choices I make every single day.  This is certainly true of the 9th commandment. How honest am I on a daily basis.  Consider these questions and what your answers might be:
"How are you?"
"How did I do?"
"How old are you?"
"How does that taste?"
"Does this make me look fat?"
"Did you break any traffic laws to get here?"

Chances are one or two of those sparked a lie in you. How far do we go with honesty?  Do we always tell people the truth or do we protect them with lies? Maybe some can't handle the truth. Can people take you at your word?  Living a life of integrity is something we should strive for as followers of Jesus Christ. As you ponder your integrity and prepare for the message this weekend read the opening verses of James 3.  See you Sunday!
