Yesterday was our Audition Power event in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I co-hosted it with Amy Jo Berman. It was an amazing day! Our ballroom was filled with actors from all over the state of Florida as well as from Texas, California, Georgia, and New York. The energy in that room was electric. Everyone was there to learn and Amy Jo and I were there to teach. We covered so much information from self-tapings to one liners, from comedy to drama, and what an agent looks for when representing an actor. We had an expert panel after lunch with Gissele Ospino from UMT, Barbara Agozzino and Cindy Schirmer from Stellar Talent, and discussed headshots with Bob Lasky. The actors were filled with so much information. I saw everyone taking so many notes. We had older and younger alike who were like sponges learning as much as they could.
Our event was supposed to last from 10AM-5PM, but we were all learning so much that Amy and I, even though we were done, decided to stay on to field as many questions as we could. I know that all of the actors, both veteren and beginners, learned all kinds of information.
When I got home I received so many messages via Facebook, Instagram and regular email. Some of the adjectives that were written to me were words like "excellent," "amazing," "awe-inspiring," "energetic," "uplifting," and we were even called the "Dynamic Duo!" It was a perfect blend of fun, education and inspiration. The best kind of day!
It's a lot of work to put on an event like this. I, personally, put myself through a lot of stress. In the end I know that I helped actors pursue their passion, which is what I love doing. Sometimes you have to go outside of your comfort zone to accomplish what you want. This was one of those times for me. I can look back on yesterday and wonder why I had been so stressed out the last couple of weeks. There was no need. But I guess we wouldn't be human if we didn't worry about something, right?
If you missed the day yesterday, I can only say I am sorry. If you were there, I know you had a great time and expanded your horizons by lots.
