Dear District 1 Residents,

We are blessed to live in Los Alamitos and to be surrounded by amazing and selfless individuals. Let us keep each other in our prayers during these challenging times.

As we move to the recovery phase of the COVID-19 crisis, it is vital we continue to act rationally and safely as one community. Reopening responsibly will prevent a spike in COVID-19-related deaths while easing the financial stress on many small businesses. With ingenuity, innovation, and teamwork, we can choose to save lives and businesses.

If you have comments, questions, or concerns about anything regarding the City, you can email me at deanlosal@gmail.com or call me at (562) 241-0235.

God bless you and God Bless America.

Gaining Transparency on COVID-19
The number of COVID-19 cases in Los Alamitos is temporarily spiking due to, in large part, outbreaks inside a small number of local care facilities where patients and staff have tested positive.

Since these facilities are located in Los Alamitos, the County assigns the cases to our city. We may have more cases as additional patients and staff are tested.

County public health officers and Los Alamitos officials have met with the CEOs, head nurses and other top staff at the facilities to ensure that best practices are in place to mitigate further spread of the virus.

In April 2018, before I took office, the City Council voted to exempt itself from California SB54, a piece of legislation preventing local law enforcement from assisting in federal immigration issues. In January 2020, the California Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal from the City of Huntington Beach on the constitutionality of SB54. On Monday night, the Los Alamitos City Council and I voted unanimously to revoke the City's declared exemption to SB54 in order to be in compliance with state law and avoid future lawsuits.
May is Military Appreciation Month
I want to take a moment to say thank you to those who have worn the uniform in service to our country and who continue to serve today, ensuring our safety and freedom. We are the home of the free - because of the brave. This month take a moment and thank a veteran or a man or women in a uniform.
