Forest Health Grant Update

Status Update

Steady work through January 2024 by vegetation treatment crews has resulted in nearly 30 more acres completed on SJW and SCCP properties. Due to rainy weather and saturated soils February vegetation treatment has been paused for safety and integrity of the project work site. We greatly appreciate the cooperation of neighbors and community members on this project.

We are kicking off the Second Forest Health Grant, known as the "Second Collaboration". Work, for now, is of the planning variety as we determine the appropriate permitting, refine our project maps and scope of the project. There are 841 acres of vegetation treatments identified over the next 4 years. Our partners for the Second Collaboration are Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District, San Jose Water Company, Aldercroft Heights Firewise Community and Lupin Lodge.

We are very excited to be working on both Forest Health Grants this year! We have updated our website and flyer accordingly and you can view that here

Senior Project Manager, Stephen Harrington, will be speaking at an upcoming webinar on March 14th at 9am for the CAL POLY Fuels Management Training Program. This webinar is an opportunity to learn how to create successful partnerships and collaborations on forest health projects with insights and experiences from the Los Gatos Creek Watershed Collaborative. To implement forest health treatments on approximately 1778 acres of strategically identified areas, The Santa Clara County Firesafe Council has partnered with the San Jose Water Company, Santa Clara County Parks, Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District and smaller, private landowners, to form the Los Gatos Creek Watershed Collaboration.

The Los Gatos Creek Watershed Collaborative Forest Health Grant is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide program that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment — particularly in disadvantaged communities.
