President
It is hard to believe it is September already. This summer has blown by in a flurry of PCA events. Last month I was just returning from the Porsche Parade and now I’ve returned from Montrey Car Week.
I’ve been attending car week since it began and it is always a highlight of my summer. Werks Reunion was beautiful. A postcard perfect day in Monterey. We had a great turn-out from Redwood Region. Two of our members won their classes, Richard and Margo Maxey with their beautiful blue 912 and Ed Boracchia in his 964. Also showing their cars from Redwood wee Laura Parker, Peter Habicht, Angelo Carpinelli and Bruce Mooers.
I am a racing fan, so I always enjoy the vintage races. These are the cars I grew up watching that made me fall in love with Porsche. This year featured historic F1 cars but they also had some of the current F1 cars on display. I was shocked at the size of a contemporary F1 car. No wonder they can’t pass on a street circuit. There was also a vintage IROC race. Not as many of the original IROC Porsches as I would have expected but a great race between Nascar legends who actually still own the cars they made famous in IROC.
I am really looking forward to our events in September. The 70th Anniversary of PCA is upon us. Pat Burke and team have worked hard on our celebration, and I know it will be fantastic.
One of my favorite events last year was the Murphy’s Tour. I’ve been waiting all year to return. This year the featured marque at the Ironstone Concours is the Porsche 356. I am certain we will have plenty of photos in the next issue. Enjoy these last few weeks of summer.

Hope to see you at one of our many great events.

This month, as we celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Porsche Club of America, I decided to write about what my PCA Membership means to me. When I purchased my first “new to me” Porsche in mid 2019, a silver low mileage 2006 Boxster, one of the very first things I did to add to its appearance was to affix a PCA window sticker to the inside of the windshield. Like so many of us, I wanted to show that I was “in the club!”
I remember reading my first copy of Panorama from cover to cover and waiting for a copy of this newsletter, the Der Riesenbaum! Well, I waited several months to receive it until I discovered that I was wrongly registered in the Golden Gate Region. I had to call PCA National to have my club changed to Redwood. After that error was corrected, I was finally “Home.” Then, COVID hit! We all remember that... so, my soon to be wife, Katherine and I began to drive our Boxster everywhere we could by ourselves, without any club interaction.
| |
We ventured all over for day trips and such. Once the lockdown was over, we began to register for any Redwood Region event we could. Rally’s, Porsches on the Plaza, mid-week runs with the club and we began meeting members and soon became friends with many.
Then, it happened, I was welcomed to attend a board of directors meeting in Petaluma. I quickly realized that this was an opportunity to be involved with an organization that I really enjoyed being a part of. The folks that I joined all had two things in common – a passion for the cars we were driving and a special comradery with the people that were driving them. The events that we attend are so much fun and the friendships that we have made are those of a lifetime!
In 2023 I upgraded my daily driver to a Carrera 4S. Katherine says we are “adulting” now! We love “Becky” – named after our all-black cat – and we continue to enjoy every event we can even more than before.
Being in my Vice President’s position, I have been introduced to the innerworkings of our Region, our Zone and our National Club. I’ve attended many gatherings and events and have met members from all over the United States. My membership has even taken me to experience opportunities in Europe. It’s like being an ambassador!
I truly enjoy being involved with the PCA and consider it an honor to represent our Region and the Club. One of the first things I do when I meet a fellow Porsche driver is ask if they belong to the PCA. Several owners that I have met in parking lots have become Redwood members and are actively involved in our events. I think that’s pretty cool.
You can always reach out to me directly. Email

September 25 – 28 Ironstone Concours d’Elegance Weekend in Murphys.
The fires in Gold Country have spared Murphys so the Weekend will proceed as planned. For the fourth consecutive year we will experience the beautiful roads of Calaveras County, The Concours, the Antique Auto Races, the amazing BBQ dinner at the Murphys Historical Hotel, Lunch with Kelly Telfer and the lovely little town of Murphys!

Uncle Ferry wants you to join the P.O.S.S.E!
September 28th.
8 am to 10 am.
| | |
What’s this, you ask?
It’s the Porsche Owners Sunday Social Event.
Who’s invited?
Any Porsche owner or driver, regardless of the model they have.
When is it?
Every fourth Sunday of the month from 8 am to 10 am.
Where is it?
In front of Starbucks, at the familiar Vintage Oaks Shopping Center, in Novato.
How much will it cost?
Nothing, nada, zip, zero.
Why is this happening?
It’s an opportunity for Porsche owners to have an informal get-together, at a North Bay location, before going to brunch, heading to the hills, cruising to the coast… or, wherever one wishes to drive that day. It’s a chance to meet and talk to your fellow Porsche owners. It’s a chance to put names and faces with the cars. It’s a chance to show off your ride!
See you there!

PCA's 11th "WERKS Reunion Monterey" was our biggest EVER with approximately 12,000 people attending!!! We had over 160 Porsches on the fairways being "Judge", another 30+ Porsches from Porsche Dealers from all over the West entered in the "2025 Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge", over 600 Porsches parked by Model in the "WERKS" Porsche Corrals and another 60+ Porsches displayed at the numerous Vendor & Sponsor tents. Also, there were many Porsches parked over on the general parking fairways.
| |
Sharon was the Zone 7 Rep, in 2012 when PCA was invited to join "Legends of the Autobahn" event that the BMW Club had started in 2009, then the Mercedes Club joined and in 2012 PCA and the Audi Club joined Legends. So, this year was Sharon & mine's 13th Legends/Werks event!!
Sharon and I made the drive down to Monterey after the morning commute and arrived about 11 am. at the Navy's "Monterey Pines Golf Club". Setup was already moving along, many tents were being constructed by the rental company for all the different vendors and sponsors along the different fairways and the tents for the Werks Reunion staffs. The staff from PCA National had made the trip out from Columbia, Md. was busy setting up their Membership, PCA Juniors and the PCA Goodie Store tents.
I headed down the one fairway where I found PCA's Vice President Ron Gordon with a team laying out the 160+ spots for the Porsches to be Judged. Ron had used his computer to plan where each "Class" would be located on one of the two fairways based on the number of entries in each "Class". Of course, we had to make adjustments on last minute changes or a "bad" area in a fairway.
Sharon checked in with Sandy Provasi, the "Werks Reunion" Co-Chair and they with a team of volunteers, worked on assembling all the "Werks Reunion Goodie Bags for all the attendees.
| | Friday morning 5 am. arrived very early as we got prepared for the long day ahead. Even through Tom Provasi, the "Werks Reunion" Co-Chair had sent all the entries an email weeks before about gates opening at 7 am. When we arrived at 6:30 am. there were already Porsches lined up at the gate waiting to be let in. We parked in the "Volunteer area", I headed to the fairway that I was responsible for placing the 3 "Classes" of Judged Porsches. Sharon checked in at the Volunteer Tent and went to her position splitting the Porsches coming in to either Judging or the Porsche Corrals. | | Porsches rolled in non-stop from 7 am. until 10 am. with Sharon & Lori Schultz sending them down their correct paths. The Judged Porsche owners were very busy getting the last-minute cleaning done before the start of the Judging at 9:30 am. | | |
The Vendors & Sponsors were busy talking about their products showing the hundreds of Porsche people how their item could make their Porsche go faster, sound better or look better. Princess Cruises were signing up people for their upcoming "Treffen at Sea" or other cruises. Werks Reunion & Porsche Artist Kelly Telfer had a large tent of Porsche artwork and Werks Reunion posters.
Redwood Region members took 1st Place in 2 of the 14 Judged Classes!!!!
| | |
1st Place in the "912 Class"!!!
Richard & Margo Maxey with their 1967 912.
| | 1st Place in the "964 & 993 Class"!!!! Edward Boracchia with his 1992 964. | | Quite a few Redwood members also had their Porsches Judged and many more were in the Werks Reunion Porsche Corrals. | | In the "2024 Winners Circle" was Jeremy Waen 2003 Boxster S. | | |
Angelo Carpinelli with his 2012 991.

On a beautiful August morning, the Redwood Region Porsche Club assembled at Kaffe Mocha parking lot in Santa Rosa to prepare for a drive over the Mayacamas Mountains to Napa Valley’s Bella Union Winery.
We had our typical driver’s meeting, with a few announcements regarding
the event, then we commenced with the planned run.
| | |
With 32 cars in hand, we created two groups and headed east on Mark West Road to Petrified
Road and arrived in downtown Calistoga. I lead one group with Don Magdanz as sweep and Ben
Davoren lead the second group with Essy Fariab as sweep.
| | We continued through Calistoga to Silverado Trail and traveled south. We performed an effortless regroup near Calistoga to maintain a tight unit of Porsche cars and headed south on the Trail. We turned west on Oakville Road heading for Hwy 29. We then headed north to Bella Union Winery. | | Upon our arrival, we strategically filled the parking lot with beautiful Porsche cars. We were all greeted by winery staff with glassware and enjoyed the bounty of Napa Valley’s best beverage accompanied with charcuterie treats at the outdoor terrace. | | Longtime Redwood member, Bruce Mooers Executive Vice President Far Niente Wine Estates provided a great presentation about the history of Bella Union winery and their products. | | We took advantage of the beautiful interior spaces of the winery for more socializing and winery presentation. After tasting the different varietals, a few attendees were thinking about lunch. | | |
Most of the group headed to a planned yet optional lunch at Gott's Roadside in St. Helena.
Gotts orchestrated reserved parking with additional help from VP Pat Burke moving orange
cones for all to safely park. The casual lunch caused more socializing and meeting new Porsche
enthusiasts.
| | Thank you goes to Kurt Fischer for organizing this great event, Bruce Mooers, Joseph Wilson and the entire team at Bella Union for hosting us, Steven Horn at Gotts Roadside in St. Helena and Katherine Zimmer Burke for all the fantastic photos, | | |

This summer has been a real temperature adventure for many of us; I trust you have taken advantage of either inland heating or coastal cooling with your Porsche to put a smile on your face!
To help you get out of the house again, our next planned “Charity Adventure Day” to support the Redwood Empire Food Bank is still planned for Tuesday November 4th. When originally scheduled it was a sleepy off-year election day; now you can look at it as a reward for voting!
| | |
The MSR registration page is open and ready. If you’d like to come join our one-hour driving
tour, 3 hours of volunteer work in the warehouse, and a hosted lunch at Barley & Bine Beer
Café in Windsor, please sign up or email me if you need more information about signups.
In other charity news, our primary charity Sonoma CASA had a successful second annual team
golf tournament at the Windsor Golf Course on Friday August 22nd and it seems likely they will
continue this tradition next year.

Summer is winding down with Labor Day, the unofficial “last day of summer”, having come and gone. Last month was full of great PCA - RR events but they don’t stop when August ends. There are plenty of activities to look forward to this month. Our monthly emailed “der Riesenbaum”, is always a great way to find out what is upcoming with the club. It also has cool stories and photos from events that occurred during the previous month. Another great source to learn about upcoming events is the Region’s website.
You can access it by clicking here: Redwood Region.
This September Membership Report addresses changes that occurred during the past month of August. At the end of August our Redwood Region had a total of 1,164 Members/Co-members (753 Primary Members and 411 Affiliate/Co-Members), 11 of whom joined in August. This is a net gain of 9 members; a strong month for membership. In August we did not have any members transfer from other regions, although 3 of our members did transfer out to new regions. We now have 18 Active Test Drive Participants; three of these having signed up in August. We are working to help these Test Drive Participants find their dream Porsches and convert to full membership.
| | PCA would also like to have any of our members who have not registered a co-member to consider adding one. There is no additional cost and the co-member receives all of the benefits that the full member receives with the exception that they will not receive a mailed copy of PCA’s “Panorama” magazine. They will, however, have access to the digital version. Frequently the co-member is a significant other. However, this does not have to be the case. Sign-up an offspring, a sibling, a best friend or maybe a co-worker and spread the good word about Porsche and the PCA! | | |
Thirty-six of our Redwood Region members celebrated their five year, or more, PCA Membership Anniversaries in August. They are all shown in the table below. This month our longest continuous member is…… Mr. John Hefler. John drives a classic black, 1976 911S coupe around the classic streets of Sausalito. Tell him “Congrats” for his 52 continuous years as a member of the Porsche Club of America.
All of our Region members are encouraged to join the monthly Board Meeting held on the last Tuesday of every month. The Board meets in a private room at Torches restaurant at 265 Petaluma Blvd. N, in downtown Petaluma. The meeting officially starts at 7:00 PM but you’ll want to arrive much earlier to allow time catch up with fellow PCA - RR attendees. All members, and their input, are welcome. Join in and the club will pick up your dinner tab. (Food and non-alcoholic beverages only).
See you soon at an upcoming event.
As always, please email me any questions about membership.
Thanks, Brad.

The weekend of August 22 to 24, saw over 150 Porsche Race cars on track at Weathertech Laguna Seca Raceway as PCA Club Racing and POC (Porsche Owners Club) held a joint event. POC hadn't been to Laguna Seca for 10 years and their members came out in force. When we had the GGR event at Sonoma Raceway at the end of June, talking with Vali Predesc, CEO & Owner of Vali Motorsports, he had 27 customers already signed up for Laguna. Actually, Vali had over 40 Porsches at Laguna to Race or Time Trial.
Our GGR Grid crew Karen Neidel, Milo Dorr & I did triple Duty for the weekend as two of the POC Grid crew were involved in a traffic accident on their way to Laguna Friday morning and spent Friday night in the hospital. So, we worked Grid all 3 days with the one remaining POC Grid person and of course they do things a little different than the way we do, but we made it through.
We had quite a few of the Racers, racing with both Clubs which meant they were entered in 6 races over the weekend and some made it to all 6 races!!! Saw a lot of interaction between the racers from both clubs, especially the fastest one in the different Classes.

Fantastic weekend for Redwood's Tad Sanders at GGR's "Kahuna at Laguna" weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca!!
Tad finished P2 in Sprint Race #1 in the "911 Cup" Class in his
1979 911 and was P1 in Class in both Sprint Races #2 & #3!!
Great racing Tad!!!

Hello Zone 7,
Since my last column I was thrilled to visit and be a part of the Golden Gate Region’s 65th Anniversary function. The history of the Region and its members is fascination. A panel discussion was the highlight of the event with perspectives from the very early days to recent activities and successes.
Two Zone series concours events meant I attempted to detail my car twice, once for the Monterey Bay Region "Concours - In Paradise" and the Golden Gate Region event at Porsche Redwood City. I left with hardware from both and a fun time had for sure. If you haven’t done a Concours or haven’t for a while, I can’t encourage you enough to come on out. We are kind, friendly and encouraging.
Werks Reunion Monterey is just past. What a success. Approximately 200 judged cars (including the Porsche Classic Dealer Challenge cars) and 800 or so in the Corral. I was proud to be a part of a HUGE group of volunteers who make this a premiere event for PCA. Congratulations to all those who trophied.
