For the first time since 2019, an NYCPM graduation was held indoors in its traditional home, the great Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, with all of the pomp and ceremony of pre-pandemic commencements. The May 26, 2022 Commencement Ceremony for the Class of 2022, NYCPM’s 111th commencement, celebrated the 66 graduates in front of a full house of friends and family, faculty, staff and guests. _Dean of Student Services and Enrollment Lisa Lee initiated the proceedings. Awards Ceremony Honors High Achieving Students
Thirty-five distinct awards/scholarships were bestowed on May 11 at NYCPM’s Annual Awards Ceremony to second-, third-, and fourth-year students who excelled in academics as well as in other aspects of their work as podiatric medical students. The majority of the awards carry a monetary component. Susan M. At NYCPM graduation, instructor Samantha Landau, DPM (2018), MPH received a certificate marking the completion of her “Post-Graduate Fellowship Training in Biomechanics and Gait-Related Disorders of the Lower Extremity in Children and Adults,” and became “the first of what we hope to be many future Fellows in Orthopedics,” according to Joseph C. NYCPM Poster Day Highlights Students’ Interest in Research
At last – a return to an in-person, pre-Covid Poster Day! Poster Day 2022 featured the hard work and insights of the Class of 2023 for its Research Projects and Presentations. Eileen D. Welcome Svetlana Lopata, DPM (2018) to Medicine Department
In June, Samuel Adegboyega, DPM (2006), Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Medical Sciences, announced that Svetlana Lopata, DPM (2018) will join the department on July 5.
_Dr. Lopata completed her residency at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Yonkers, NY, where she served as chief resident and completed a fellowship in advanced wound care and tissue healing at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, NY. She is board certified by the ABPM and board qualified in foot and reconstructive ankle surgery by the ABFAS.
_According to Dr. Adegboyega, Dr. Lopata’s main task will be to help revamp the FCNY wound clinic. In addition, Dr. Lopata will give lectures in Podiatric Medicine 1 and 2, Medical Imaging 1, Physical Diagnosis, Wound Care workshop, and Medicine workshop.

Dora Solosko, M.Cp. (1921)
A man’s search for information about his alumna grandmother has opened a window onto some of the issues faced and rewards reaped by a female podiatrist in the early decades of the twentieth century.
_John Bernhard’s inquiry about his grandmother, Dora Solosko, a member of the Class of 1921, (at right in 1933), led to an email exchange that revealed a great deal about her and about early graduates of the College.
_He wrote: “My grandmother came from Latvia in 1912 with her family. The family valued education but couldn't afford to send her to NYCPM. I am not sure how she could afford it. However, after reading NYCPM's 100th history book, I suspect that through the school's spirit of generosity she found a way. She was the first in the family to obtain a post-secondary education. NYCPM Alumni Dominate NYSPMA House of Delegates Election
During the weekend of June 4 and 5, the NYSPMA House of Delegates meeting in Cooperstown, NY, elevated existing officers and announced new Trustees – all but one NYCPM alumni! Dr. Maria Branca (1994), left, is the new President; Dr. Sandro Frasca (1992) is President-Elect; Dr. Vanessa Darmochwal (1994) will be Treasurer; Dr. Emilio Goez (1990) was re-elected as Trustee. The three new Trustees are Dr. Giannin Perez (2011); Dr. Jacqueline Prevete (2013) and Dr. Lauren Schwartz (1995). The new Vice President is Dr. Charles Lombardi. Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to two more alumni: Dr. David Davidson (1968) and Dr. Michael DellaCorte (1981). Dr. Frasca won the 5th annual Ronald L. Soave Award, presented at the Downstate Meeting of NYSPMA in December 2021.

Alumni Obit
Robert Brody, DPM (1973) died of cancer last April. After maintaining a private practice in Brooklyn for 40 years, he moved to East Hampton and went into real estate sales.
