Opens Oct. 1! | Galileo: Scientist, Astronomer, Visionary | General Museum Hours

Our newest traveling exhibit, Galileo, opens October 1! So, here’s some background on the man himself, Galileo Galilei (1564-1642):

🧪 The Italian scientist, astronomer, and mathematician is often referred to as the “father” of observational astronomy, physics, and the scientific method.

🚀 Modern science owes a great deal to him, as many of his discoveries enabled a great shift in science that ultimately paved the way for today’s space travel.

🔭 Though he did not invent the telescope, he was the first to use it systematically to observe celestial objects, like the Moon, and record his discoveries.

⛓️ Did you know that Galileo was sentenced to life in prison for his work? For publishing, “Dialogue of the Two Principal Systems of the World” in 1632, which supported the Copernican heliocentric theory that put the Sun at the center of our solar system.

Now, who's excited? Plan a trip today!

Tickets to Galileo range in price from $5 - $8 per person, in addition to general museum admission for non-members.

Supported by the Michigan Arts and Culture Council.
