Come Watch the Debate
AND
Help Pack Abortion Comfort Kits!
Tuesday, September 10, 5:30 OR 7 pm, Alpert JCC
| |
|
Well, our politicians have kindly set up their debate on the very night we’re doing kits! (The nerve!)
So, are we cancelling? NO! Are we changing the time? Well, YES! You’ve got some choices!
Want to watch the debate on a big screen with friends? Come at 5:30 pm. We’ll set up the kit tables and start playing the debate at 6 pm. We’ll work on kits starting at 7 pm, and you can either work on kits or finish watching the debate.
IMPORTANT! Please remember NCJW is nonpartisan, and we do not all share the same opinions. As such, please be mindful and respectful when viewing the debate together.
Just want to work on kits? Come at 7 pm. We’ll put our lean, mean assembly teams together and have our 400 kits done by 8:30!
No speakers this time, but the same great snacks and libations as usual!
Please RSVP HERE by September 8
or by emailing communityservice@ncjwlongbeach.org
or calling (657) 235-2511.

If you prefer to send us a check, please add "comfort kits" to the memo line and send it to:
NCJW – GLB&WOC 3801 E. Willow St., Long Beach, CA 90815
| |
AND:
We Continue to Need Your Financial Support for This Important Project!
We're helping pregnant women all over the country get the medical help they need and a little comfort from their peers. Your dollars have helped us be the voice that gives them comfort and hope. But the need for kits has grown more than 50% since our last fund drive! Please help us help these women.
And please, if possible, donate by Tuesday, September 10, our next packing event, so we can give our kit creators news to make them proud!
Thank you for standing with us,
Andrea Friedenthal & Michelle Gordon

Hands Needed for HugPack Packing!
Thursday, September 26, 6:00 - 7:30 pm, Alpert JCC
| |
|
Many helping hands are needed, so join us in giving a "hug" to vulnerable children entering or in the foster care system, from ages infants and toddlers to high school! Come learn about and participate under our new plan for packing HugPacks: we will pack for all five age levels at each and every event, increasing our yearly total from 650 to 720 as we move forward! As always, we send huge kudos to Sara Silva and her team at Compton YouthBuild for keeping this project running so smoothly!
Snacks and drinks are provided, and we guarantee that doing good for others will feel wonderful! While you have your calendars out, why not reserve HugPack evenings for all four 2024-2025 packings? Our dates are Sept. 26, Nov. 7, March 13 and April 24, with an RSVP two days before each session in order to submit an attendee list required by the Alpert JCC.
Please RSVP HERE by September 24
or by emailing communityservice@ncjwlongbeach.org
or calling (657) 235-2511.

NCJW Vote Forward Letter Writing & Decorating
Monday, September 30, 6 pm, AJCC, Room 27
| |
|
Join us at the JCC to write Vote Forward letters and/or to decorate them. Vote Forward has conducted a small pilot study and found that enhancements increase the likelihood that a letter will be opened.
NCJW will provide stickers and markers. You can join us and write letters to be decorated, or you can decorate letters that have already been written. If you have them, bring yours from home. We’ll make them look great!
Feel free to bring a bagged dinner. Coffee, tea and water will be provided.
RSVP by Friday, Sept. 27, to advocacy@ncjwlongbeach.org and indicate if you’d like to write some letters and/or decorate.

NCJW Together
Under the Sukkah
Sunday, October 20, 1 - 3 pm, AJCC
| |
|
NCJW - Greater Long Beach & West Orange County invites our members and guests to a free social event in the Alpert JCC sukkah. Come have lunch, visit with old friends and make new ones, hear donation recipient agency speakers, and enjoy a few hours together under the Alpert JCC's sukkah. In addition, the NCJW 2024-2025 year budget will be presented for member approval.
Traditionally, Jews reside for seven days outdoors in the sukkah (booth) in appreciation of the ingathering of fall crops and gratitude to God for the bountiful harvest. On October 20, we’ll enjoy each other’s company over lunch with a different kind of ingathering, not in celebration of a fruitful harvest but rather to collect diapers and wipes to aid two greater Long Beach organizations -- Long Beach Community College (LBCC) and Christian Outreach in Action (COA) -- meet a significant need for the youngest children of our community.
| |
Please bring a package or two of diapers and some wipes (sizes 4-6 especially urgent but any sizes will be welcomed) for the 125 to 150 mothers with children who visit Christian Outreach in Action's Diaper Bank every Friday, as well as the 50 student mothers at LBCC sleeping overnight in a designated "safe area" parking lot on campus. Special guest speakers from our beneficiaries COA and LBCC will update us on the needs of mothers and children they are working to fulfill.
All donations, whether monetary (through our website via Donations or Tributes, especially to the College Student Health and Wellness Fund for LBCC) or in-kind donations of diapers, training pants, and wipes, are so appreciated as NCJW works to support the youngest ones in our community.
