Newly planted shrubs and plants need lots of tender loving care to help them get established and prepare for winter.
Water, Water, Water. Water deeply every day for the first couple weeks, then weekly for the rest of the season until the ground is frozen. You could be watering plants into December! In the fall, more may be needed in a hot spell. Watering deeply means making sure the water reaches down through the root zone. Slowly watering over a long time is better than a quick dump of a lot of water from a watering can. Water for 20 seconds, then move to another area and go back to the first one and water again.
Note: In this heat, the plants you picked up or had delivered need to get into the ground fast! If you must wait to plant them until you have time over the weekend, put the plants in the shade, on soft ground that holds moisture rather than a patio, driveway or stone that retains heat.
