Lott Carey will be hosting a benefit luncheon to honor Dr. and Mrs. David Emmanuel Goatley during the Annual Session from August 14-17, in Greensboro, North Carolina. The luncheon will recognize their more than 21 years of service to the Lott Carey family and their impact and ministry around the world.

Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal while hearing inspiring stories of the Goatleys' service and commitment to Lott Carey.

Dr. Goatley, an accomplished theologian, missiologist, and academic administrator, served as Lott Carey's executive secretary-treasurer for many years. Mrs. Pamela Goatley was a longstanding volunteer to Lott Carey, providing administrative and operational services.

While leading Lott Carey, Dr. Goatley oversaw many new initiatives and programs. He extended partnerships to several countries, expanding Lott Carey’s global reach.

"We are especially pleased to honor the service and commitment by the Goatley family that has given so much to Lott Carey," said Rev. Emmett Dunn, executive secretary-treasurer of Lott Carey.

Proceeds from the luncheon will go to the construction of a new high school in Liberia to be named in the honor of Dr. and Mrs. Goatley.  “I can hardly think of a more fitting way to honor a family that has given so much to Lott Carey and Liberia,” Rev. Dunn said.

After leaving Lott Carey, Dr. Goatley moved to Duke Divinity School as the associate dean for academic and vocational formation, Ruth W. and A. Morris Williams Jr. Research Professor of Theology and Christian Ministry, and director of the Office of Black Church Studies.

He is currently the sixth president of Fuller Seminary in California, the first Black president of the interdenominational evangelical school, which has provided graduate level training to many outstanding leaders in the church.
