2022 Annual Report
At my first board meeting in July of 2022 I noted that the mission of Women’s Voices is evident in your vibrant commitment to learning, advocating, inspiring and responding, in a timely way, to many issues. Today, we present our Annual Report which highlights our impressive portfolio of work, and catalog of generous donors. Most notably, it includes a list of our members, the heart and muscle of our organization. If you are not yet actively involved I hope you review our newsletter, website and social media and join an effort this year. I welcome the opportunity to speak about this report or anything else related to Women’s Voices.

Yours in service,
Bryna

May Program Speakers Provide Solutions for Solving Food Insecurity
At the May program, Operation Food Search (OFS) director of communications, Jocelyn Fundoukos, and director of policy and advocacy, Beverly L. Isom shared how their organization is working to address both short-term immediate hunger relief and long-term solutions to end the cycle of food insecurity.

Join Our Advocacy Efforts
As we head into summer, we have time to relax and reflect on what we want to do in the fall. But why wait? As you read this, we just finished participating in weekend Wear Orange events to unite us to end gun violence. Every day in the U.S., 120 people are shot and killed and hundreds more are wounded. Women's Voices has opportunities for you to volunteer through our Lock It for Love program to distribute gun locks.

On June 19 we celebrate Juneteenth, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. St. Louis has many events planned including a Fitness Fest, Juneteenth Celebration at Busch Stadium and festivals. Find area events at happeningnext.com.

June also is Pride Month and there are many activities happening locally, including Pride Fest June 24 and June 25, where voter registration will also be available.

In the coming year, the advocacy committee will focus on three areas: voter protection and education, educational issues, and health care, in particular, access to health care and mental health. Our goal is to create movement to address these issues and invite YOUR involvement. What are you passionate about?

Women’s Voices members will continue to speak out in times of injustice. Please consider joining us for the next advocacy committee meeting on June 26, where we’ll begin to brainstorm about how to implement initiative to create movement. Contact advocacy chair, Karen Francis, for details.
WEAR ORANGE Weekend
On the weekend of June 2-4, 2023, people came together at events from coast to coast to honor victims and survivors of gun violence and to spread awareness about this preventable crisis. Lock It for Love volunteers participated in two local Wear Orange events to distribute FREE gun locks and provide gun safety information.
Karen Cloyd (L) and Cathy Gilbert (R) at the Wear Orange Prayer Service of Remembrance and Lament hosted by the Episcopal Diocese of MO at Tower Grove Park.
Joanne Kelly (L) and Mary Schuman (R) at the Gun Violence Awareness and Prevention March at Emmanuel Episcopal Church hosted by Churches Together.
