Happy Independence Day from all of us at Louie's!
Louie's Finer Meats and Louie's Lodge are open daily to serve you. We are getting ready for the big holiday weekend - stop and see us!

Join us for the area's largest fireworks display over Beaver Dam Lake. With the cost of fireworks increasing, this event isn't possible without the generosity of the community. You can donate to the Cumberland fireworks fund at Louie's.

Don't forget to check out the Cumberland Fire District's Firehouse Breakfast, from 7 to 11 AM on the 4th of July! Featuring pancakes, Louie's sausage, and more!
Bacon Run/Walk
A great crowd showed up on Saturday, June 18 to walk or run a 1-mile or 2-mile course, and enjoyed free bacon and fun at the finish line! This was a fun, untimed event, but we recognized Hank Brunclik and Sydney Leschisin as the fastest runners in the 2-mile event. Thanks to all who participated, we can't wait to do it again next year!

Congratulations to Peter and Lisa, who were engaged at the Bacon Run!!

Recipe: Chicken Pepper Bacon Melts
A delicious dinner that the whole family will love!

1/2 lb Louie's Bacon
1 lb Boneless, skinless Chicken Breasts - pounded to 1/4" thick, cut into portions
1 large Red Bell Pepper, cut into thick strips
1 Onion, cut into thick strips
1 cup All-Purpose Flour
1 tsp Salt
1/4 tsp Black Pepper
2 Eggs
2 tbsp Milk
1.5 cups Bread Crumbs
Oil for frying
3/4 cup condensed Cream of Chicken Soup
1/4 cup Cream
8 oz. Fontina Cheese, cut into thick slices

  • In a large pan, cook bacon to just under crisp. Drain on paper towels and save bacon grease. Leave 2 tbsp Bacon grease in the pan and save the rest for later.
  • Heat the pan to medium heat and add peppers and onions. Cook for ten minutes. Pour into a bowl and set aside.
  • Preheat oven to 350 F.
  • Add salt and pepper to the flour and put in a pie plate.
  • Place the eggs and two tbsp milk in a large bowl and whip.
  • Put the bread crumbs in a second pie plate.
  • After the chicken has been pounded, dip in flour, dip in the egg, then in the bread crumbs and hold on a platter.
  • In the pan you used to cook the peppers and onions, add the remaining bacon grease and top it with vegetable oil to about a half inch deep. Heat oil to 350 F.
  • Line a sheet pan with foil.
  • Fry the chicken, browning on each side and remove to a sheet. You don't need to cook it completely as it will finish cooking in the oven. Cook until a nice golden brown on both sides.
  • Mix the condensed cream of chicken soup with the cream and microwave until hot. Spread this over the fried chicken.
  • Spread the cooked peppers and onions over the chicken.
  • Top with bacon strips and cheese.
  • Bake uncovered for 10-15 minutes or until the cheese has fully melted and is starting to brown.
  • Remove from oven and serve.

Summer School
In June we welcomed several groups of the Cumberland summer school "Exploring Cumberland" class to tour Louie's and see how sausage is made. Their favorite part was the free samples at the end of the tour!

We also did a sausage-making presentation for the Shell Lake summer school. The students were able to pick their own ingredients and make some very unique sausages!
