Recipe: Unbelievable Sausage Stuffing

This easy, crowd-pleasing sausage stuffing is perfect for Thanksgiving or Christmas. It’s packed with fresh onions, celery, carrots, and hearty pieces of sausage. Your choice, use regular Pork Sausage or instead use Pizza Sausage for extra flavor. Dried bread cubes soak up the broth and turkey drippings beautifully. If you didn’t dry out the bread the night before, just place the cubes in a 200°F oven for about 30 minutes to crisp them up.


Ingredients 10 servings

  • 1 package Louie's bakery bread (16 oz)
  • 1 pound Louie's Pork Sausage or Pizza Sausage
  • 1 stalk celery, diced small
  • 1 medium carrot, diced small
  • 1/4 large yellow onion, diced small
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup turkey drippings
  • 14 ounces turkey or chicken broth, plus more if needed



Directions

  1. The day before, cut the French bread into cubes. Put in a bag to harden for the next day. If not sufficiently dried, bake in a 200 F oven to crisp them up.
  2. Brown the sausage in a pan; meanwhile preheat the oven to 350 F.
  3. Mix the cooked sausage with the dried bread cubes.
  4. Cook the onions, celery, and carrots in the same pan that was used for the sausage. Cook until slightly soft, about 5 minutes.
  5. Add the spices, vegetables, and olive oil to the mixture. Blend together.
  6. Add the drippings and mix well.
  7. Add the broth slowly, fully coating the bread.
  8. Spread into a 9x13 baking dish, sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
  9. Bake for 50-60 minutes. Serve!
