|
The Louisiana Gas Association's Annual Operations Conference brings natural gas professionals together to further their knowledge about the natural gas industry from October 28-30, 2013 at the Renaissance Baton Rouge Hotel.
Conference attendees, including Louisiana's top executives, small operators, municipalities and vendors, will learn skills to enhance performance, promote safety and broaden public awareness about the natural gas industry.
The conference consists of two tracks for small and management operators, the 6th Annual Mike Hester Barbecue Cook-off, golf tournament, trade show, and live and silent auctions to benefit the LGA Scholarship Program.

Angelo Fabiano Awarded the Milton W. Heath, Sr. Memorial Award | Recognizing his lifetime of work to advance the natural gas industry, the American Gas Association honored Angelo Fabiano as the winner of the 2013 Milton W. Heath Sr. Memorial Award at its biennal exhibition held May 21-24, 2013. The award, sponsored by Heath Consultants Incorporated, is given annually to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to leak detection, prevention or repair during the preceding five years.
Colleagues from across the natural gas industry commended Angelo for his extensive work in the research and development of leak surveillance and pinpointing technologies during his tenure as the Technical Manager at NYSEARCH, the research, development and demonstration committee of the Northeast Gas Association. While at NYSEARCH, Angelo played a critical role in bringing several groundbreaking technologies to market, including the design, development, testing and commercialization of the Remote Methane Leak Detector, Angelo also led the development of several projects in damage prevention and live PE pipe repair, many of which are expected to become commercially available. In each of these endeavors, Angelo worked with a diverse group of members, funders and contractors to reach successful outcomes.
Angelo retired from NYSEARCH in 2013 after 13 successful years. Before joining NYSEARCH, he worked for more than 20 years as an engineer for Brooklyn Union, now part of National Grid. He currently works as an independent consultant.

Natural Gas Utilities Assist Low-Income Customers
|
Natural gas utilities provided nearly $1.1 billion in energy assistance programs in 2011, demonstrating a continued commitment to assisting low-income customers. These efforts included customer rate assistance programs and arrearage amnesty, weatherization and efficiency services and participation from utility employees and shareholders in company-sponsored fundraising drives, according to a report by the
American Gas Association (AGA).
"AGA wants every American to have access to the benefits of clean, domestic natural gas," said AGA President and CEO Dave McCurdy. "No one should need to choose between heating or cooling their home and other basic human needs. Utilities are providing help with bill payments and home weatherization, and are sponsoring fundraising efforts. We are proud of our member companies' dedication in helping to ensure that vulnerable customers are able to meet their energy needs."
In addition to utility-sponsored programs, AGA continues to support other efforts to assist low-income customers. On Wednesday, April 10, AGA and the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) hosted advocates from across the country at AGA headquarters in Washington, DC, as they gathered for the National Fuel Funds Network's (NFFN's) LIHEAP Action Day - a day of meetings with policymakers on Capitol Hill to advocate for funding for the Low Income Heating Assistance Program (LIHEAP). LIHEAP Action Day participants are advocating for $4.7 billion in funding for this critical program that provides federal aid to help natural gas customers who struggle with home heating and cooling bills during times of extreme weather. As part of the day's activities, Senator Mary Landrieu was recognized for her continued support for LIHEAP through the NFFN Extra Mile award.

CNG Vehicles for Hurricane Recovery |
This weekend's MotorWeek segment takes viewers to the New York and New Jersey coastlines where Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc. Fleets with vehicles running on compressed natural gas (CNG) were essential to both evacuation and recovery efforts when gasoline and diesel shortages hampered conventional vehicle operations. Community planners and emergency management agencies in the region are now taking a closer look at alternative fuels as a key part of their disaster preparedness strategies.
Produced by Maryland Public Television's MotorWeek program, this segment will air on PBS stations nationwide starting March 23, 2013 (in the regular weekly MotorWeek timeslot on your local PBS station). MotorWeek is also available on Velocity by Discovery.
For show times in your area, check the MotorWeek and Discovery Channel websites. While many local PBS affiliates are still broadcasting in standard definition, viewers with newer widescreen televisions can watch the episode in high definition on Velocity by Discovery. Previous video segments are available on the Alternative Fuels Data Center. We'll continue to keep you posted on upcoming segments.
Happy watching!
