Dear Stakeholders,

The Port of New Orleans is making significant progress on the design and development of the Louisiana International Terminal (LIT) project, which is located in Violet, LA. The project is the largest public economic development project in the State and continues to receive strong support from global industry partners as well as state and federal governments.

Currently, the project is undergoing the federal permitting process with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, with permits anticipated later this year. Once the final permits are obtained, construction of the terminal will begin.

Pile Load Testing Update

On Thursday, February 6, and Friday, February 7, crews will conduct a 32-hour pile load test. This test involves applying a measured weight or force to an already driven pile to test its load-bearing capacity. This process tests the pile foundation by putting pressure on it to see how much weight it can safely support.

Crews will be onsite for the entire duration of the test. Portable lights will be set up for the workers who will be monitoring the work overnight, and a hydraulic power pack will be in use to provide the necessary power during the test. It is not expected that these activities will result in any significant impacts to residents.

All necessary permits have been received for these tests and are available on our website.

The Louisiana International Terminal is currently undergoing an environmental review process, as required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), before final permits can be issued and construction can begin.

If you have any questions regarding the pile load test, please email LITInfo@portnola.com or call our hotline at 504-528-3494.

Surcharge Testing Update

Over the past few months, crews have been onsite conducting a series of permitted surcharge tests. To date, the majority of work on site that requires heavy equiment and large crews is complete. A small crew will remain on site to conduct tests.

Similar to the pile load test, all necessary permits have been received for these tests and are available on our website.

If you have any questions regarding the surcahrge test, please email LITInfo@portnola.com or call our hotline at 504-528-3494.
