Lourdes Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

I have been reading Positive Soul Formation by Sister Patrciia McCormack. She is a Catholic School Administrator as well as an author on child development. There are things that parents and schools should do so our children are creating a positive soul. Sister Patricia spoke at one of our professional development days and was very inspiring.

One area that is close to my heart is instilling purpose and Initiative. Here are some things that help children build purpose and initiative in their souls

  • Exposure to varied experiences

Each child has their favorite activity; try to encourage children to try different things outside of their comfort zone.

  • Emphasis on idea and process rather than the product.

Success of products depends on factors outside our control; instead measure success by the ideas generated and processes followed.

  • Adult modeling of recovery after making a mistake

The biggest obstacle to the formation of initiative is the fear of making mistakes.

  • Having freedom tempered with responsibility and consequences

Freedom and responsibility are two sides of the same coin. To practice one to the exclusion of the other damages the soul.

  • Adherence to the basic standards and deadlines for chores

Be realistic in setting standards and deadlines for chores, Then, make it clear what those standards are and that you expect them to be met without further coaxing from you.

Lectio Divina

We pray with all Catholics throughout the Green Bay Diocese

There are different ways to engage in Lectio Divina. If you are a beginner here is a process that will help you get started.

Step 1: Prepare yourself to read scripture. You will need to find a time and location where you will not be interrupted or disturbed. Ready yourself to read God’s word and see how He wants you to respond.

Step 2: Read the scripture and look for words or phrases that jump out at you.

Step 3: Reflect on those words or phrases and what they mean to you.

Step 4: Reread the scripture and spend a few moments in quiet reflection on what God is calling you to do through these words or phrases.

Step 5: Reread the scripture a third time and it is time to respond. What actions will you take after your conversation with God?

Fourth Sunday of Easter

John 10:11-18

Daily Readings from USCCB - View here

Jesus said:

"I am the good shepherd.

A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

A hired man, who is not a shepherd

and whose sheep are not his own,

sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away,

and the wolf catches and scatters them.

This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep.

I am the good shepherd,

and I know mine and mine know me,

just as the Father knows me and I know the Father;

and I will lay down my life for the sheep.

I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold.

These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice,

and there will be one flock, one shepherd.

This is why the Father loves me,

because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.

No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own.

I have power to lay it down, and power to take it up again.

This command I have received from my Father."

Men of Lourdes, you are invited to attend an event featuring the Nicene Creed and the Our Father.

Please join us on Thursday, April 18 at 6:00 p.m., as our parishioner, Scott Crevier breaks down both prayers. We can recite these two prayers by heart, but do we really know their full meaning and how they evolved. After this presentation, you will look at each differently.
