Lourdes Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

I hope that you all had a joyous Easter and a little Easter break.

I always come back to school a little bit more rejuvenated as I reflect all that Jesus did for us when he died on the cross. I’m more patient, more giving, and less anxious because I know that the problems that I face don’t come close to what Jesus had to endure for all of us.

Thank you to our 3rd graders for the wonderful job they did with their wax museum project. It is one of my favorite learning activities here at OLOL. I would like to thank Mrs. Matzke for her dedication to her students and making learning creative and exciting.

For the past couple of weeks our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders have had an extra dose of coding and programming thanks to a parent volunteer. Mr. Murphy O’Hearn, father of Eli, who has come in once a week and teaches lessons on coding and programming. We would like to thank Mr. O’Hearn for giving his time for the benefit of OLOL students. This is what makes the OLOL community such a unique school environment and one that you don’t find just anywhere.

One of the things that I greatly admire about my wife Jennifer is her dedication to her employer and her customers. She always goes above and beyond. These qualities are rare and I appreciate them more and more when I see them. She was named the national sales rep for her company for 2023. She asked me if I would accompany her on a trip to a resort in Canada next week, which was the prize. Therefore, I will not be at school next week. I have identified three roles that I need to excel at, which are husband, father, and principal. Next week is one of the times that they come into conflict. I apologize for the inconvenience this causes for our families and staff. Mrs. Sharon Johnson will handle any situations that arise. Thank you in advance.

Lectio Divina

We pray with all Catholics throughout the Green Bay Diocese

There are different ways to engage in Lectio Divina. If you are a beginner here is a process that will help you get started.

Step 1: Prepare yourself to read scripture. You will need to find a time and location where you will not be interrupted or disturbed. Ready yourself to read God’s word and see how He wants you to respond.

Step 2: Read the scripture and look for words or phrases that jump out at you.

Step 3: Reflect on those words or phrases and what they mean to you.

Step 4: Reread the scripture and spend a few moments in quiet reflection on what God is calling you to do through these words or phrases.

Step 5: Reread the scripture a third time and it is time to respond. What actions will you take after your conversation with God?

Second Sunday of Easter Sunday

John 20:19-31

Daily Readings from USCCB - View here

On the evening of that first day of the week,

when the doors were locked, where the disciples were,

for fear of the Jews,

Jesus came and stood in their midst

and said to them, "Peace be with you."

When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side.

The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.

Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you.

As the Father has sent me, so I send you."

And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,

"Receive the Holy Spirit.

Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them,

and whose sins you retain are retained."

Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve,

was not with them when Jesus came.

So the other disciples said to him, "We have seen the Lord."

But he said to them,

"Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands

and put my finger into the nailmarks

and put my hand into his side, I will not believe."

Now a week later his disciples were again inside

and Thomas was with them.

Jesus came, although the doors were locked,

and stood in their midst and said, "Peace be with you."

Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands,

and bring your hand and put it into my side,

and do not be unbelieving, but believe."

Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!"

Jesus said to him, "Have you come to believe because you have seen me?

Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples

that are not written in this book.

But these are written that you may come to believe

that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God,

and that through this belief you may have life in his name.

Ladies of Lourdes

Women’s Ministry

Retreat Day

“Love Like Mary, Serve Like Martha”

Sunday, April 14:

Mass at 10:15, followed by lunch and retreat until 3:30 p.m.

In Luke’s Gospel, chapter 10, we hear the story of Jesus and some of his disciples who came to dine at the home of sisters Martha and Mary. As a woman of her times, Martha was busy with all the details of hospitality while Mary sat at the feet of Jesus, eager to feast on His love and His words.

As women, most of us are often like Martha with an endless “to do” list. Are you a woman who juggles a job, children, carpooling, volunteer work?

The Ladies of Lourdes Women’s Ministry invites YOU to set aside April 14 and experience some “Mary moments” with Jesus. We’ll have good food, time for sharing, and time for quiet time with Our Lord.

Please join us and please invite a friend or two or three. A donation of $5 is requested. RSVPs are appreciated by April 8 to help with our planning: (920) 336-4033 or email to [email protected]

Men of Lourdes - Upcoming Event:

Men of Lourdes, you are invited to attend an event featuring the Nicene Creed and the Our Father.

Please join us on Thursday, April 18 at 6:00 p.m., as our parishioner, Scott Crevier breaks down both prayers. We can recite these two prayers by heart, but do we really know their full meaning and how they evolved. After this presentation, you will look at each differently.

Please RSVP and if you have any questions, please contact Deacon Mike at [email protected]
