Lourdes Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

It is hard to imagine that it is the last week of school. Time flies when you are having fun!

I usually include a “State of the School” write up in the last Lourdes Letter. I will be sharing that next week. Our two main concerns are the same. Number one is always the academic progress of the OLOL student body. Our STAR reports show that over 75% of our students K-8 reached their target growth goal with over 95% of our students at mastery level for the grade level. These are great numbers and I’m extremely proud of our students, staff, and families.

Number two is our enrollment growth. As of June 2nd, we have 228 students enrolled for the 2024-2025 school year. This is about a 9% increase from 2023-2024. I know that we will hit 230 by the last day of school and an enrollment of 240 isn’t out of the realm of possibility. I am well aware that growth is due to our families talking about our school and getting more people excited about coming to OLOL. Thank you as you play a huge role in all of our successes.

Thank you to all that attended “Bounce into Summer” on Saturday. The weather held out and we had another great turnout. The turnout at all school functions this year have been outstanding. I have been principal at OLOL for 11 years now. I couldn’t imagine a better job as I love the students, families, and staff that I serve. This community is special and has enriched my life immensely. Thank you for all that you have done for us at OLOL Catholic School during the 2023-2024 school year.

Later in the Lourdes Letter, you will find introductions of the staff that will be joining us next year: Mrs. Stacey Thorn (4 year-old preschool), Mr. Chris Harris (kindergarten), and Ms. Olivia Nisbit (2nd grade). I am very excited for these three talented educators will join our OLOL family.

“Vacation time offers the unique opportunity to pause before the thought-provoking spectacles of nature, a wonderful “book” within reach of everyone, adults, children. In contrast with nature, a person rediscovers his correct dimension as a creature, small at at the same time unique, with a “capacity for God” because interiorly he is open to the infinite” - Pope Benedict XVI

Lectio Divina

We pray with all Catholics throughout the Green Bay Diocese

There are different ways to engage in Lectio Divina. If you are a beginner here is a process that will help you get started.

Step 1: Prepare yourself to read scripture. You will need to find a time and location where you will not be interrupted or disturbed. Ready yourself to read God’s word and see how He wants you to respond.

Step 2: Read the scripture and look for words or phrases that jump out at you.

Step 3: Reflect on those words or phrases and what they mean to you.

Step 4: Reread the scripture and spend a few moments in quiet reflection on what God is calling you to do through these words or phrases.

Step 5: Reread the scripture a third time and it is time to respond. What actions will you take after your conversation with God?

Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Mark 3:20-45

Daily Readings from USCCB - View here

Jesus came home with his disciples.

Again the crowd gathered, making it impossible for them even to eat.

When his relatives heard of this they set out to seize him, for they said, "He is out of his mind."

The scribes who had come from Jerusalem said, "He is possessed by Beelzebul,"

and "By the prince of demons he drives out demons."

Summoning them, he began to speak to them in parables, "How can Satan drive out Satan?

If a kingdom is divided against itself,

that kingdom cannot stand.

And if a house is divided against itself,

that house will not be able to stand.

And if Satan has risen up against himself

and is divided, he cannot stand;

that is the end of him.

But no one can enter a strong man's house to plunder his property

unless he first ties up the strong man.

Then he can plunder the house.

Amen, I say to you,

all sins and all blasphemies that people utter will be forgiven them.

But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit

will never have forgiveness,

but is guilty of an everlasting sin."

For they had said, "He has an unclean spirit."

His mother and his brothers arrived.

Standing outside they sent word to him and called him. A crowd seated around him told him, "Your mother and your brothers and your sisters are outside asking for you."

But he said to them in reply,

"Who are my mother and my brothers?"

And looking around at those seated in the circle he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of God

is my brother and sister and mother."

News from OLOL School Library

Mrs. Brys

It's hard to believe another school year is coming to an end. It's even harder to believe there are less than 70 days until Packers Family Night!

I want to thank everyone who helped with the Packer Parking during the 2023-2024 school year. We raised nearly $7,000 for the school this year!

This past year was also one of the easiest years for getting volunteers for parking.  Thank You All!

Thanks again for your help this year and thanks in advance for your help during the upcoming season.

WELCOME to Our Lady of Lourdes School

(2024-2025)

Welcome to Our Lady of Lourdes

Mrs. Thorn

PreSchool - 4K

Hello! My name is Stacey Thorn and I am excited to join the team at Our Lady of Lourdes as the new 4K teacher! I have 16 years of teaching experience and have enjoyed every day shared with kids.

I graduated from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. I never expected preschool to be my long-term absolute favorite, however it was my first job out of college and I never looked back. Every day spent with young kids is a day filled with laughs and sparkle!

For the past three years, before starting my journey at Our Lady of Lourdes, I taught a multi-age preschool class at the Neenah-Menasha YMCA. Prior to the Y, I taught a multi-age classroom at Royal Montessori Academy in Green Bay. The Montessori school has a unique approach to teaching and taught me the importance of instilling a love of learning through hands on play and student led explorations. My first preschool teaching experience took place at Wisconsin International School in De Pere where I taught 3K. Throughout my years of experience, I believe in a balanced approach between the Montessori methods, mainstream methods, and play-based methods. Guiding individual students to their full potential is never the same route! I like to provide options for students to figure out their best way of learning!

I’ve been married to my husband, Nick, for 15 years. Nick and I moved back to Wisconsin after graduating college in Minnesota. We found ourselves in the Appleton area where he started his career in Law Enforcement, and is now the Chief of Police for the City of Menasha.  We currently live in Freedom with our two daughters, Olivia (9) and Evelyn (6). We have two big dogs and a cat…our house is full of fun chaos!

In my spare time during Wisconsin winters, I like to read, bake, and play card games. As soon as spring hits, my sandals and sunglasses come out and we’re off exploring parks and different areas to camp.

I am very excited to join our Lady of Lourdes! Thank you for welcoming me!

Welcome to Our Lady of Lourdes

Mr. Harris

Kindergarten

Greetings! My name is Chris Harris and I will be joining Our Lady of Lourdes School

as the new Kindergarten teacher.

I am eagerly awaiting the fall to finally be back where I belong; in Kindergarten. I

have been teaching for sixteen years and have taught Kindergarten, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and Elementary S.T.E.A.M.

I am a University of Wisconsin-Green Bay graduate. I earned my Bachelor of

Science in Education, with a minor in Early Childhood Education and later my

Master of Science in Leadership for Teaching and Learning.

I am an eclectic person with multiple hobbies. I love soccer, drumming,

hiking/camping, and have recently taken up oil painting.

Welcome to Our Lady of Lourdes

Ms. Nisbit

Second Grade

My name is Olivia Nisbit, and I am delighted to introduce myself as a new 2nd grade teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes School for the upcoming academic year. I am eager to embark on this educational journey and anticipate a year filled with growth, discovery, and achievement.

I hold a degree in Elementary Education from Saint Norbert College, where I graduated in 2024.

I was born and raised in Winona, Minnesota. In my spare time outside of school, I like to read books, cheer on the Green Bay Packers, and spend time with friends and family. I am very happy to be joining the community of Our Lady of Lourdes.
