Lourdes Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

This week is concert week. I hope that you are able to join us for our spring concert and musical on Thursday at 6:30pm.  Please have your student report to the classrooms or music room at the requested time.  We hope you enjoy the show.

Not only are we hosting the OLOL Spring concert and OLOL School Musical, we are also hosting another GRACE school’s spring play.  Chesterton Academy junior class is having their play, in our gym, on Friday night May 10th and two shows on Saturday, May 11th at 1:30pm and 5:00pm.  You are welcome to attend this production as well.

Myself and members of various interview teams have been busy talking to candidates about our open positions for the 2024-2025 school year.  These interviews continue this week.  We have a verbal commitment for one of our positions which I hope to pass along when we have some additional hires.  Please pray for all of our candidates.  I know we will find the ideal teachers for our positions.

Speaking of next year.  We will again have two kindergarten and two first grade classes.  We will also be adding a second 2nd grade class next school year.  If you have a child entering these grades and you have a teacher preference, I ask you to email me your request along with a short paragraph explaining your request.  I will do everything possible to honor each request.  All requests need to be submitted on the last day of the 2023-2024 school year.   At this time, we do have open positions in kindergarten and 2nd grade.  I hope to have new teacher announcements made before school dismissing for the year.

I wish to thank all of the OLOL teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week.  I get to see the tremendous amount of effort they put into ensuring that to the best of our ability we are providing a world-class educational experience to all of our students.  Thank you OLOL Staff! Thank you to our parents that have contributed to making our teachers feel special this week.

Lectio Divina

We pray with all Catholics throughout the Green Bay Diocese

There are different ways to engage in Lectio Divina. If you are a beginner here is a process that will help you get started.

Step 1: Prepare yourself to read scripture. You will need to find a time and location where you will not be interrupted or disturbed. Ready yourself to read God’s word and see how He wants you to respond.

Step 2: Read the scripture and look for words or phrases that jump out at you.

Step 3: Reflect on those words or phrases and what they mean to you.

Step 4: Reread the scripture and spend a few moments in quiet reflection on what God is calling you to do through these words or phrases.

Step 5: Reread the scripture a third time and it is time to respond. What actions will you take after your conversation with God?

Solemnity of Ascension of the Lord

Mark 16:15-20

Daily Readings from USCCB - View here

Jesus said to his disciples:

“Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature.

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned.

These signs will accompany those who believe:

in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages.

They will pick up serpents with their hands,

and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them.

They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

So then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them,

was taken up into heaven

and took his seat at the right hand of God.

But they went forth and preached everywhere,

while the Lord worked with them

and confirmed the word through accompanying signs.

News from OLOL School Library

The Book Swap is happening this Friday, May 10.

If your child would like to participate, they

can bring up to 3 books to swap with classmates. Please send the books to school in a plastic bag with their name and grade on it.

The last day to check out books from the library will be Monday, May 13.

Please return all books by Friday, May 24. I need to do inventory of all the books in the library so all books need to be returned by that date. Thanks for your help with this.

We will be doing the Summer Reading Challenge again this summer. Last summer we had the most participants so far. I’m hoping we can top last year’s number. More information will be coming about the Challenge in coming newsletters.
