From the Desk of Principal Young

Dear Lourdes Families,

Thank you to all of you that attended parent-teacher conferences. These are great opportunities to ensure that we are all working together for the success of all students. Great schools have healthy, strong relationships between parents and teachers. We might disagree on things, but they can be resolved with communication.

A special thank you for all the new families that signed-up to meet with me. We are grateful and so blessed for families that choose OLOL for their children’s educational journey. The only way I can think of to repay you for your support of OLOL is to ensure we are doing everything we can to provide a successful learning environment for your children. I always want feedback from you on what we do well and areas that we can improve on. It all starts with communication that leads to strong, healthy relationships.

The next big thing on our school calendar is Light up Lourdes which is two weeks away. There are two things you can do right now that will ensure we have a successful evening.

  1. Sell or purchase the two Light Up Lourdes tickets that you are required to sell. If each family is able to do this we will be close in selling out the 400 tickets that we have.
  2. Come to Light Up Lourdes and plan to have a great evening.

Light Up Lourdes has two main goals. The first is to raise funds for our school. If you aren’t aware, each GRACE school has a given amount of fundraising dollars we have to raise that is part of our budget. Once we reach that amount every dollar stays here at OLOL and is used for our students. Last year we raised over the target amount at the LIght Up Lourdes event. We hope to do the same this year. We will explain what all funds raised at this year’s Light Up Lourdes will be allocated to at the event. Stay tuned.

The second goal is just as important as fundraising. We are a learning community that includes students, families, and staff. This event is a golden opportunity for all of us to connect with each other and strengthen the bonds that we have in common, to create a great school which produces successful students. We do this by reaching out and meeting new families and parents. I challenge each of us to talk with someone we don’t know at Light Up Lourdes. I know that we are blessed with outstanding families. Let’s make sure we meet the people that we are blessed to journey with.

I can’t wait to see you at Light Up Lourdes.

We celebrate All Saint’s Day on Friday, November 1st by going to Mass at 9:00AM. Similar to what we did last year, students and staff can dress up as their favorite saint. Students were very creative last year, thus we want to continue this tradition.

Thank you to Mrs. Giesler, a new parent at OLOL this year, who has cleaned our uniform closet. She spent time adding new clothes and removing some of the older clothes. She reported that we have an ample supply of clothing. Please keep that in mind before you go out and buy new clothes as the kids grow. The uniform closet is open during school hours but please reach out to the office if those hours don’t work for you. We can be creative if you are needing school uniforms.

We are welcoming Ms. Ellie Mazza to OLOL this week. Ms. Mazza will be student teaching for 8 weeks with Mrs. Matzke in third grade.

Our Lady of Lourdes

Christmas Concert

Believe it or not, students are already starting to work on their music for the Christmas Concert!!

The Our Lady of Lourdes Christmas Concert, Christmas Joy will be Thursday, December 12. The concert will be held in the Church and will begin at 6:30 P.M. All 4 YO Preschool through 8th grade students are participating in the concert. The concert is a mandatory performance for all students - every voice and instrument matters - their classmates are counting on them! Everyone should also plan to stay for the entire concert. All students are participating in the final numbers!

Students should dress nicely for the concert. Boys should wear nice pants (no blue jeans, no sweat pants, no shorts) and a nice shirt (button down or polo shirt). Sweaters, suit coats, ties, etc. are all fine, but not required. Girls can wear nice pants and a nice shirt, a skirt and a nice shirt, or a dress. Skirts or dresses should reach the knee or should have leggings worn underneath. Leggings should only be worn under a skirt or tunic-legth top.

All band students should arrive at school and meet in the cafeteria by 6:00 PM.

New this year: All Middle School Choir students should arrive at school and meet in the music room by 6:05 P.M. After warming up, they will proceed up to the church. All other students should arrive in church by 6:15 P.M. All students should plan on staying for the entire concert as we will be performing as a whole school at the close of the concert.

If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail Mrs. Lewis at mlewis@gracesystem.org.

Community Events

Radiating Joy is the story of Servant of God, Michelle Duppong, who bore witness to Christ through heroic suffering and a passion for inviting others to be transformed by His love. The film, directed by Danny Anderson, tells the story of Michelle’s beautiful and faith-filled life, especially during her diagnosis, treatment, and death.

In June 2022, Bishop David Kagan of Bismarck, North Dakota, announced the opening of the diocesan phase of investigation into Michelle’s life, which could lead to her beatification and canonization. On December 25, 2015, Duppong died of cancer at the age of 31.
