Scrip Program TSF Hour Opportunities

The scrip program is offering 2 opportunities to earn TSF hours.

First, runners are needed to collect scrip from St. John the Baptist parish in Howard and to drop them off at the OLOL parish office. This needs to be done between 8am and noon most Wednesday mornings. This can be a shared responsibility between multiple individuals who pick up every other week, once a month, or another schedule based on needs. One TSF hour is awarded for each pick up. To volunteer, please contact Bridget Destree at bd0105@yahoo.com or Tammy Ashauer at tammyashauer@gmail.com.

Additionally, we are looking to return the practice of selling scrip to those attending Masses. To ease into this practice and ensure we have sufficient volunteers to sell, we will begin by selling only between the 8:15 and 10:15am Masses on the first and third Sunday of each month (to align with Children of God and Young Families Ministry). Volunteers will sell from the end of the 8:15am Mass (around 9 or 9:15am) until the start of the 10:15am Mass to allow those attending either Mass the opportunity to buy. One TSF hour will be earned for this period. Additional dates/times for selling around Masses are possible as we train and have sufficient volunteers. It is our goal to begin selling on October 1 or October 15 in order to capitalize on the holiday buying season. News from Principal Young

Dear OLOL families,

I am very excited to have the first full 5 day week of the 2023-2024 school year. I hope that your family and your children have enjoyed the first couple weeks of school. If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your parent mentor, classroom teacher or myself. The education process requires that all of us work together for the betterment of your children.

I hope that you have Grandparents Day marked on your calendar for Wednesday, September 20th. Here is the timeline for the day:

8:25 - Weather permitting, grandparents will meet on the playground. If you are dropping off your grandchild you are welcome to stay on the playground. Mr. Young will address grandparents on the timeline.

8:35-8:40 - We will begin having grandparents enter the building and proceed to their grandchild’s classrooms. We will be staggering so our hallways won't get clogged. Middle school students will come to the elementary classroom if your family has students at both levels.

8:40-8:50 - You can visit with your grandchild and start heading over to church for Mass.

8:50 - All grandparents and grandchildren go to Mass.

9:00 - 10:00 - Mass at OLOL Catholic Church

10:00 - 10:45 - A social will be held in the cafeteria and the social hall.

10:45 - Grandparents say goodbye to their grandchildren.

If any grandparent has difficulty with steps and getting from school to church, please contact your grandchild’s teacher. We can make accommodations to meet everyone's needs.

Thank you for all that attended the inaugural OLOL Homecoming last Friday. The goal of this event was to get our OLOL parents together and meet each other in a relaxed atmosphere. The OLOL parents are on a common journey and it is good to connect and share experiences. We weren’t trying to raise funds or talk about school. It was designed just for you to share each other’s company. I believe we reached our goal. Thanks to Jim and Kelsey Christensen for spearheading this event. I would also like to thank the Thursday night set-up and Saturday morning clean-up crews.

If it fits into your schedule, we would love to see you at the GRACE Back-to-School Mass on Sunday, September 17th at Prince of Peace Church at 6:00. An Ice-cream social will follow.

● OLOL Little Spikers is focused on fundamentals, ball control and skill

development.

● Work on volleyball stance, footwork, positioning, passing and setting.

● Teach effective communication, teamwork, fast thinking and concentration.

For those wondering, OLOL Little Dribblers will be held this year. Please watch your email for dates and times.

Students who make good choices at school are awarded Cavalier Cards. Each week we have a drawing where some lucky students win a prize.

Library Update

The results for the Summer Reading Challenge have been tallied. The class with the highest participation was First Grade with 62%. The third grade came in second with 61% and second grade came in third with 59%. All three classes will get an extra recess for their participation. All participants received dress down day certificates.

The Pre-K (full day) students through fourth grade started library this week. Pre-K and Kindergartners can checkout one book at a time. First through eighth grade can check out two books. The books need to be returned before more books can be checked out. The books are checked out for two weeks and may be renewed.

As you do fall cleaning, please keep the OLOL Library in mind if you have gently used children's books to donate. What we can't use in the library will be passed on to classroom teachers or donated to DePere Christian Outreach. Thank you!

STAR Assessments are short tests that provide teachers with personalized learning data for each student. Students may take a STAR test for early literacy, math, or reading. Teachers analyze the data they receive from STAR Assessments to learn what students already know and what they are ready to learn next, to monitor student growth, and to determine which students may need additional help. These tests are research-based and scientifically proven to help teachers guide each student on their unique path to proficiency.
