News from Principal Young | | |
Dear OLOL families,
If you were at OLOL this past week you might have seen Martin Systems trucks in the parking lot. Your kids might have said that they saw workers around the school. Fr. Jim and I are proud that work has started on the updating of the security system. We are adding more cameras and are setting up for all FOB entrances. In addition we have also had all school doors wrapped with shatter-proof material. I will keep you updated on the developments.
If you are looking for an opportunity to earn your 2 hours for Light Up Lourdes, you can earn them on October 5th by calling past event attendees and selling them tickets to this year’s Light Up Lourdes. You can sign up HERE. There will be refreshments to make the time fly by. We would love to see you there.
The students and teachers have been busy with the STAR assessment the past two weeks. This is a new assessment tool for us. We are getting trained on how to analyze the data. This assessment is important to see academic growth, evaluate curriculum, and next teaching practices. The feedback from the students was they liked it better than MAPS.
I would like to keep you informed on what the staff does on those days that students don’t report. This past Friday we spent the day receiving professional development on professional learning communities. We listened to keynote speaker Dr. Anne Franklin and then spent an hour with the OLOL team discussing implementation. PLC’s are going to be good for the students and staff. It takes time for us to learn the process. Friday was a good start.
“The most deadly poison of our times is indifference. And this happens, although the praise of God should know no limits. Let is strive therefore, to praise him to the greatest extent of our powers. - Maximilian Kolbe

Lectio Divina
We pray with all Catholics throughout the Green Bay Diocese
| | |
There are different ways to engage in Lectio Divina. If you are a beginner here is a process that will help you get started: For scripture, I would suggest reading the upcoming Sunday Gospel scripture.
Step 1: Prepare yourself to read scripture. You will need to find a time and location where you will not be interrupted or disturbed. Ready yourself to read God’s word and see how He wants you to respond.
Step 2: Read the scripture and look for words or phrases that jump out at you.
Step 3: Reflect on those words or phrases and what they mean to you.
Step 4: Reread the scripture and spend a few moments in quiet reflection on what God is calling you to do through these words or phrases.
Step 5: Reread the scripture a third time and it is time to respond. What actions will you take after your conversation with God?

Matthew 21:28-32
Daily Readings from USCCB
Jesus said to the chief priests and elders of the people:
"What is your opinion?
A man had two sons.
He came to the first and said,
'Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.'
He said in reply, 'I will not,'
but afterwards changed his mind and went.
The man came to the other son and gave the same order.
He said in reply, 'Yes, sir, 'but did not go.
Which of the two did his father's will?"
They answered, "The first."
Jesus said to them, "Amen, I say to you,
tax collectors and prostitutes
are entering the kingdom of God before you.
When John came to you in the way of righteousness,
you did not believe him;
but tax collectors and prostitutes did.
Yet even when you saw that,
you did not later change your minds and believe him."

STAR Assessments are short tests that provide teachers with personalized learning data for each student. Students may take a STAR test for early literacy, math, or reading. Teachers analyze the data they receive from STAR Assessments to learn what students already know and what they are ready to learn next, to monitor student growth, and to determine which students may need additional help. These tests are research-based and scientifically proven to help teachers guide each student on their unique path to proficiency.
