Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL families,

Welcome to Light Up Lourdes week.  The event is Saturday night at 5:30pm. I hope that all of you are able to join the extended OLOL community as we celebrate our school, parish, students, and families.

I have 4 primary goals as principal  of Our Lady of Lourdes.  In order of importance they are:

  1. Ensure all of our students are prepared for high levels of success in high school.
  2. Create an environment where all students, families, and staff have the opportunity to create a firm, strong relationship with Christ.
  3. Create an environment where students, families, and staff engage in positive interactions which supports personal growth and development.
  4. Create an environment in which promotes joy and leading a faith-filled rewarding life.

No one person can work to achieve all four of these goals.  It takes all of us to do our share.  Make no mistake it will take hard work and there are times I’m sure that we will want to give up.  Hard work is required if we want to accomplish something great and bold.  Nothing is more bold that working on creating an environment where students, families, staff, and parishes thrive.

Light Up Lourdes is all about goal number 3 and 4.  It is important that we are able to raise money that goes directly to improving the student and family experience for our students and families.  For me, it is much more important that we continue to build and strengthen the OLOL community.  That is a huge part of our mission as members of our school and our faith community.

There has been a change in our food service staffing, and we are now looking for a new kitchen manager. We thank Mrs. Calaway for her 9 years of service, and we wish her well in her future endeavors.

The kitchen manager position is posted on Indeed and on WECAN. If you or someone you know is interested in this position, please reach out to Mr. Young. The kitchen manager follows the school calendar and works daily from 9:30am - 12:30pm.

We are also looking for volunteers to help us during this interim time; if you or someone you know are interested in helping out, please contact Mr. Young.

Lectio Divina

We pray with all Catholics throughout the Green Bay Diocese

There are different ways to engage in Lectio Divina. If you are a beginner here is a process that will help you get started.

Step 1: Prepare yourself to read scripture. You will need to find a time and location where you will not be interrupted or disturbed. Ready yourself to read God’s word and see how He wants you to respond.

Step 2: Read the scripture and look for words or phrases that jump out at you.

Step 3: Reflect on those words or phrases and what they mean to you.

Step 4: Reread the scripture and spend a few moments in quiet reflection on what God is calling you to do through these words or phrases.

Step 5: Reread the scripture a third time and it is time to respond. What actions will you take after your conversation with God?

Matthew 25:1-13

Daily Readings from USCCB

Jesus told his disciples this parable:

"The kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins

who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.

Five of them were foolish and five were wise.

The foolish ones, when taking their lamps,

brought no oil with them, but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps.

Since the bridegroom was long delayed,

they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

At midnight, there was a cry,

'Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!'

Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.

The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'

But the wise ones replied, 'No, for there may not be enough for us and you. Go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.'

While they went off to buy it, the bridegroom came and those who were ready went into the wedding feast with him. Then the door was locked.

Afterwards the other virgins came and said,

'Lord, Lord, open the door for us!'

But he said in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, I do not know you.' Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour."

Saints Before Us - Saints Among Us

While students have been learning about various saints in their classroom, they have also considered the many people surrounding them who are saints in the making.

Each week of November, during the Wednesday school masses, some of the students will speak about their Saint Among Us.

Month of November .. We Remember

The altar is setup in the church gathering space. where you can put the ofrendas. An ofrendas is a favorite thing that the loved ones liked when they were alive. During the month of the November our school family and everyone who attends mass at Our Lady of Lourdes can place their ofrendas and/or picture of their loved ones who have died on the altar.

We also encourage you to sign the book of remembrance with the name of your loved one(s) who have passed.
