Keeping God at the centre of everything that we do in our everyday lives is key to leading a spiritual life. Swami often reminds us that spirituality is very simple. We need to keep God first, and everything else after that.
Swami's message to Sai youth around the world this week:
"It is not important what each of you think about an issue in life, whether it is at home, whether it is at office, whether it is at business. You must go by what God would think, what matters to God, how God would like it. If you keep that again and again in your mind, and instead of worrying about each other's opinions, rather worry about God's opinion, then definitely you will come to a sound conclusion which is good for everyone. Most of the time you forget God. That is when all the problems, all the unhappiness begins!"
Yours in Sai Service,
Bhuvana Santhanam

As the volunteer vehicle approached the distribution area, over 80 of their less fortunate friends beamed with a huge smile. This smile radiated Swami’s love. Volunteers felt as if they were serving the Lord. Swami always says that “Service to Man is Service to God” and the volunteers saw Swami in every single one.
This month, the group served a juice packet, an orange, a chocolate granola bar, and a ciabatta bun as a healthy snack to their homeless friends.

Brothers and sisters, an extremely emotional moment that Sai Ashraya will soon be a reality. Imagine a house for orphaned children and youth, where Love is taught, Love is fed, Love is nurtured and that too in the heart of Bay Area.
Bhagawan explained the need for this, “If we serve a person who is already aged, transformation occurs more slowly because of his already constructed mind and habits. But, if we were to shower love and inspire transformation in the heart of a young mind, they will grow to be wonderful citizens and they will, in turn, touch the hearts of other people of the nation as they grow up”. Can anyone explain this so beautifully? Bhagawan continued “The only difference between your children and the children on the streets is the opportunity that was provided to some while many lacked that. Once we show children what is Love that is enough, Love will nurture Love”.

Breakfast Seva Activity
Oakland and Berkeley
|
|
This month, the youth of Bay area decided to spread love by carrying out the breakfast Seva activity in multiple locations in Bay Area - Oakland and Berkeley.
On a mission to help and speak to the homeless youth and adults, the youth geared up this time with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (around 75 of them); Hot coffee and Bananas. A few brothers made the energising coffee and a few others worked on preparing and packing the delicious sandwiches. Once it was ready; everyone drove out in groups and hit the road to reach Berkeley which was the first spot...

The Houston youth group had been getting together for almost a year to prepare and hand out sack lunches. But over the past few months, after talking to the needy and understanding what can provide them the most help, the group began venturing into new territory. They also learned that not only was the timing of the Seva – the last weekend of the month – important, as there were other groups who handed out meals in the same areas the first three weekends of the month, but also what they were handing out. They first started with adding bottled water – an overdue improvement. Then came hygiene wipes – an immediate reprieve. After further research, the group decided to try handing out undergarments in addition to the wipes and see how far it would go...

Homeless shelters provide opportunities for their own residents as well as community servants to offer assistance to the less-fortunate. The Salvation Army of Huntsville, Alabama, USA specialises in rehabilitating homeless individuals who are also suffering from addiction to alcohol and drugs. These women and men may not be able to afford the often expensive fees charged by treatment centres. Acting as the staff of the shelter, residents prepare meals using food donated by local grocery stores, and thereby, learn personal and collective responsibility. Likewise, in the spirit of collaboration, volunteers clean the dining tables and seats of the dining area. By working closely together, Sai youth have also had a chance to listen to the life-stories of their brothers and sisters and to inspire the with from lessons learnt from Bhagawan’s guidance, in their own lives.

Small Steps in the Transformation of the Central Team
|
|
Ever since Swami accepted their invitation to visit Chihuahua in June of 2016, the friends who make up the organizing group, mainly devotees began working as a team to organize the visit eight months beforehand. Undoubtedly Swami´s grace allowed them to maintain the energy and enthusiasm required to overcome the problems and obstacles and to be able to reach the objective. The constant interaction of course, caused friction and conflicts, and the fear that Swami could cancel the visit was the perfect “antidote” for aligning the “egos” and to settle differences.
Swami put Rene´s Gym in the path of their search to give them an opportunity to serve; and through which the group would be able to continue “polishing” the rough edges and unresolved problems that arose during the organization of His visit. The interesting thing to note is that in this service activity, the group no longer needed the “antidote” used for Swami´s visit, that is, there was no longer a threat or punishment of “cancellation” needed to align the “individual egos” and settle differences..
