When you're little you love your mom because she's your mom. As we grow older, we add texture to that love. We can see what she went through, the sacrifices, the tough decisions, all the thankless ways she made those childhood memories so special that now we look back and say with pride, "Back when I was growing up..."
Our relationship with nature is similar. For much of our lives we take for granted that we will have clean air to breathe and clean water to drink. With child-like innocence we think the Robins that hop through the yard, and the Monarch butterflies that float through the sunlight, and the Bumblebees that pollinate our crops will go on indefinitely hopping, floating, and pollinating.
One day is not enough to celebrate either of our mothers. Developing and protecting both of these special relationships should be a year round endeavor. Love your mother on Earth Day, Mother's Day, and Every Day!
See you on the water!
