Alan Everidge Appointed Chief of Police

for the City of Perry

Perry Mayor and Council appointed Alan Everidge as the City’s Police Chief during their January 3, 2023, council meeting.

Chief Everidge joined the Perry Police Department as the patrol commander in 2021. He was named interim police chief in July 2022.

He began his law enforcement career in 1987 with the majority of his time serving at the Houston County Sheriff’s Office. He served in the patrol and traffic divisions and as an investigator in the juvenile and criminal investigations divisions. Later in his career, he was promoted to major and assigned as jail administrator where he served for eight years until his retirement from the Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Everidge has an associate and bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in public administration. He is also a graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia and has served in the Georgia Law Enforcement International Exchange program in Israel.

“I was blessed with growing up in Perry and raise my family here. I am honored to be selected to serve as Chief. The Perry Police Department has a great staff and community support. I look forward to serving in this role. My goal is that Perry continues to be a great place to live, work, and play,” said Chief Everidge.

City of Perry Continues Annual Black History Month Banner Celebration

The City of Perry is celebrating Black History Month by recognizing prominent “firsts” from Perry’s African American community.

Individual banners consisting of a photo of the individual, their name, and a brief statement of their contribution to the City will be placed on various streets throughout the Downtown District.

“It is our vision to create an atmosphere where heritage is shared, celebrated and preserved through stories, facts and impactful contributions that African Americans have had on the overall development to the City of Perry,” said Councilmember Phyllis Bynum-Grace.

A new Black History Month banner design will also be displayed along General Courtney Hodges Boulevard throughout the duration of Black History Month.

The banners will be displayed from February 1, 2023, through February 28, 2023.

City of Perry's Bond Rating Upgraded

Moody’s Investor Service upgraded the City of Perry’s general obligation unlimited tax (GOULT) rating to Aa2 from Aa3.

The issuer rating reflects the City’s ability to repay debt and debt-like obligations without consideration of any pledge, security, or structural features. The GOULT rating applies to various revenue bonds issued by the Perry Public Facilities Authority but backed by the City’s GOULT pledge.

The Aa2 issuer rating reflects the City’s solid economic growth that is outpacing the nation and helping strengthen resident income and full value per capita metrics. The rating also incorporates the City’s strong fund balance (30%) and liquidity metrics (40%).

Strong growth in property taxes, charges of services, and utility revenues helped the City maintain balanced operations despite consistent growth in personnel costs, resulting in gradual additions to reserves in recent years.

The City’s relatively low long-term liabilities ratio (around 110% of revenue) and fixed cost ratio (around 5% of the revenue) will continue to support the issuer rating.

The water and sewer revenue bond rating was also upgraded to Aa3 after a multi-year trend of solid debt service coverage, the City’s continued practice of prudently phasing in gradual rate increases each year, and steady growth in the consumer base.

Recycling Program

The City of Perry has a once-a-week single stream-based system collection program contracted out to Waste Management.

Single-stream recycling is a process in which curbside recyclables are collected from residents in a single, co-mingled container and later separated and processed into marketable commodities.

This system offers residents the most convenient way to recycle at the curbside.
