Rare SLH Cult Royalty: Pisoni Family
Lucia Vineyards Pinot Noir New 2021 Releases
|
|
Dear Artisans,
Ever since the 2019s long sold-out, the wait has been extra long for the 2021s because there wasn't a 2020 vintage release due to the devastating fires. Our patience was truly rewarded fortunately because the 2021 release of the Pisoni family's Lucia Estate Cuvee is breathtaking and their best yet. Why?
This year, this glorious 'cuvee' is made of 60% Pisoni Vineyard, 23% Garys’ Vineyard, and 17% Soberanes Vineyard. Yes, it is mostly the fruit of the legendary Pisoni Estate, a wine we SOMETIMES get allocated a couple of BOTTLES only and retails for $150+.
At under $55 this is firmly the year's best Pinot buy south of Sonoma. The same could be said about the Sobaranes single-vineyard also offered today. We were allocated only 36 bottles of each which will be gone before dinner time, so move FAST friends!!
All my best,
—James Tran

2021 Lucia by Pisoni Estate Cuvee
Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
Only 36 bottles left. Only 2,256 cases were made.
95 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"This bottling manages to be both lush and bright at once, starting with aromas of crisp cherry compote, fresh raspberry, mace and elegant French toast spices. A sprightly energy dances across the palate, where juicy dark red fruit flavors are lifted by lavender, carnation and rose petal elements." -MATT KETTMANN (3/1/23)
Winery Notes:
Entirely estate-farmed and sourced from these premier vineyard sites within the Santa Lucia Highlands, the 2021 Lucia Estate Cuvée of Pinot Noir represents our continued dedication to excellence in farming and winemaking. A sumptuous blend of 60% Pisoni Vineyard, 23% Garys’ Vineyard, and 17% Soberanes Vineyard, this wine offers up enticing aromas of strawberry compote, juicy cranberry, sandalwood, and black tea leaves, all contained within the embrace of its deep ruby hue. Carefully monitored fermentation temperatures and methodical extraction techniques have produced a wine of remarkable depth, concentration, and complexity. Layers of black cherry, Mission fig, spiced plum, and berry crumble provide a stepping stone for more subtle hints of fresh sage, clove, and vanilla bean to make their voices heard. A true snapshot of these wind-swept vines, this Pinot Noir finishes with vibrant acidity and a distinct, yet noticeably approachable structure. Don’t be surprised to see this wine continuing to amaze for years to come.

2021 Lucia Vineyards "Soberanes Vineyard"
Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
Only 36 bottles left. Only 399 cases were made.
Not yet rated, but the previous 2019 vintage made a splash:
96 Points - Jeb Dunnuck (2019 v.):
"The 2019 Pinot Noir Soberanes Vineyard is also terrific, with lots of spice red and black fruits, spring flowers, and chalky minerality. It's beautifully textured, medium to full-bodied, and just about seamless on the palate, and while it brings loads of fruit and texture, it stays beautifully balanced and elegant. It's already impossible to resist yet should cruise for 7-8 years in cold cellars. I'd certainly be thrilled with a bottle on the dinner table." (7/22/2021)
93 Points - Wine Spectator (2019 v.):
"A refined style, with sinewy power to the taut and pure-tasting dried cherry and berry flavors that show notes of sandstone and cedar box. Crunchy acidity lingers onto the minerally finish, with rich toasty accents. Drink now through 2026. 410 cases made." - Kim Marcus

2019 Lucia Vineyards "Sobranes Vineyard"
Santa Lucia Highlands Syrah
Only 9 bottles left.
96 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"I loved the 2019 Syrah Soberanes Vineyard. This beauty gives up a dense purple hue as well as a Hermitage-like perfume of black raspberries, spring flowers, ground pepper, leather, and exotic spices. More bacon fat and mineral notes develop as it sits in the glass, and it's full-bodied, with a layered, seamless texture, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. It has enough tannins to warrant 2-3 years of bottle age, but this is beautiful stuff." (7/22/2021)
