Dear CRC Supporter,
Many of you are probably more aware of CRC’s intervention services: our domestic violence emergency shelter and emergency hotline, our efforts to place homeless individuals and families into shelters or transitional and permanent housing. However, much of what we do is focused on prevention, so we can avoid the need for these intervention services. One area of our prevention has a special focus right now, as this is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, nearly 1.5 million high school students nationwide experience physical abuse from a dating partner in a single year. Educating teens and young adults about healthy relationships, and how to recognize the signs of unhealthy relationships, is one key way to impact the number of students experiencing physical abuse from their dating partners. Our educators, Jani and Luis, are working hard to reach as many students as possible to arm them with this education to help them stay safe. As a community, it’s not a case that we should do all we can to keep our youth safe. We
need
to do all we can to keep them safe.
Thank you for spreading the word that love shouldn’t hurt, and for supporting our programs to keep our young neighbors safe.
Warm regards,

Mission Circle and Food Pantry Volunteer Groups
|
|
Thank you, Mission Circle, for faithfully running our Food Pantry on Fridays! Mission Circle volunteers provide smiles and much needed food to our participants each week. Personal shoppers help low-income clients augment their food budget with fresh fruits, vegetables, regular and low-salt canned goods, fresh and frozen meats, dairy products, breads and sweets (limited). The Food Pantry serves families, senior citizens on fixed incomes, those struggling with homelessness and veterans, to name just a few.
Volunteers unload donations, keep the Food Pantry clean, and Bill Fields (a 91-year-old Friday volunteer) comes in to flatten boxes and take them out to be recycled!

Teen Dating Violence Prevention Education
|
|
So, what makes a relationship healthy? This question and many others are discussed over the course of a comprehensive safe dating and healthy relationships curriculum CRC offers to middle school and high school students in North San Diego County schools.
Students learn about the warning signs of abuse in relationships as well has the important elements of healthy and safe relationships. This semester, CRC Domestic Violence Prevention Educators are working with schools in Vista and Carlsbad, as well as the San Diego County Office of Education, to prevent teen dating violence in our communities.
If your school or youth group would like to know more about the curriculum CRC offers, contact Jani Sepanik, CRC Domestic Violence Education and Prevention Manager, at
